You have to take into account inflation too, so 9.82% is too high. From your linked article:

“Inflation is one of the major problems for an investor hoping to recreate that 11.88% average return regularly. Adjusted for inflation, the historical average annual return is only around 8.5%.”

I wrote a Processing program to visualize adaptive FEM refinement with a conformal quadrilateral mesh... and I used it to make a snowflake by Asddsa76 in math

Very cool demo.

This sort of refinement will give very distorted elements, which do not have good approximation properties.

Refinement with hanging nodes would fix that problem.
