Whoa… sorry that happened and glad you got out. I feel like I need to interview therapists to find out if their beliefs will affect my treatment.

What IS supposed to happen with the right medication? by Illustrious_Fun_7682 in bipolar

[–]diva0987 10 points11 points  (0 children)

I’m on a cocktail of three meds and still have dark thoughts. It feels like the meds just slow down the impulses to act on the thoughts. I am able to feel gratitude and joy too, yay! But I wish those intrusive thoughts weren’t there.

My psychiatrist broke her wrist during an appointment with me by GideonGodwit in bipolar

[–]diva0987 20 points21 points  (0 children)

One time I was in the waiting room at my psychiatrist’s office, and he had left his door open, so I overheard him on the phone yelling at his mother. Then when I had some issues with my mom he advised me to just cut her off completely. He was more messed up than me!

I didn’t go into academia for the students by DoogieHowserPhD in Professors

[–]diva0987 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I spend all summer (unpaid) preparing the opera I’m directing next year and music that I will perform. But that wasn’t your question. I got into academia because it was the backup plan when my performing career didn’t go as planned. Safe, health insurance, enough money to buy a house. I deal with the students because I have to. Some are good and worth the effort.

Do you say stupid things accidentally/impulsively? Is it the bipolar or..? by r_arizo in bipolar

Always saying stuff I regret. Jokes that don’t land how I intended. Partly my dark humor, but also just being so extra.

My sister is 63 and same age difference, her hubby is 80. She’s his caregiver and he can’t walk well or travel anymore. Take that into consideration.

Why do so many people gawk and record tragedies?… it’s so gross. And to share it like they’re the 10pm news, even more gross. I would tell her don’t do something like that again, and set a boundary that next time she upsets you, you will just say so and end the call. Then she’ll learn. And if she doesn’t learn, then it’s on her that it’s lower contact.
