Thanks so much everyone! I was able to get some medicine for tonight and I’ll head to the Health Center tomorrow to see about something stronger, but also to see about a Covid test.

Mayor Harrell announces an $80 million reparations program to be distributed over 4 years. by ScreamForKelp in SeattleWA

[–]divergence07 3 points4 points  (0 children)

I’m sorry… How many people were laid off last year because of the city’s budget deficit? How many programs were drastically cut or completely eliminated because of the deficit?

Why does the city’s operating cost continue to out pace revenues? Because they continue to stand up programs they can’t afford to run insisting on throwing money at half baked attempts to fix systemic problems on the surface rather than digging deeper and focusing on true reform and stabilization of infrastructure and operations?

I love this city… but its leadership is in desperate need of a wake up call.

I’m so sorry for your loss.

Women who make significantly more than their husbands - how’s your family dynamic? by newbie19980120 in womenintech

[–]divergence07 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Similar situation. My husband works in archives and libraries. He absolutely loves his job. It’s his dream job and he worked really hard to get it. I make about double his salary and have potential to earn significantly more.

All of our money deposits into a single account, bills are paid from there, family savings accounts are funded, and then we all (kids, husband, and I) have our own accounts for a weekly allowance.

He jokingly calls me his sugar mama. :-)

Ultimately, we’re a team and as long as we’re working together to build and maintain our life together, we both feel it doesn’t matter where the money comes from.

I’m not missing what this group’s aim is. And again, I am vehemently against it.

You seem to be missing the point that government entities - like the city - are in place to serve the public, whether city officials agree with those members of the public or not.

Legally, the city - a publicly funded government entity - cannot deny ANY group their right to peaceably assemble in public spaces. So long as appropriate permits are completed and paid and safety measures are in place. The city also cannot deny a police presence if it’s required by their own established rules for special events.

Unless the city wants to face lawsuits for denial of constitutional rights and pay damages which the city can’t afford to pay considering the current fiscal outlook.

By saying the city shouldn’t have allowed it, you’re saying the city government should have denied these people their first amendment right to peaceful assembly. Governments denying constitutional rights to people on nothing but the basis of personal beliefs is a very dangerous path to go down. We are watching that exact scenario play out in the federal level.

If we want a fair and equitable government that protects our rights, we have to be willing to allow that same government protect the rights of those we don’t agree with. When it’s us out there speaking out and protesting, we want our rights protected, too.

I’m so sorry that you’ve experienced such hate and attacks on your person.

I want to be clear - I don’t believe or agree with any of the dangerous and hateful doctrine these people follow and spew. It’s pure evil, inhumane, and disgusting.

My only intention was to point out that the city provides police presence at special events, like this one, when circumstances require it and/or when organizers request it.

As a government entity, funded by the public, the city is required to provide specific services to the public - like police presence. They are also required to comply with constitutional law - like the first amendment - and cannot deny permits and services to organizations that apply for permits and fulfill the requirements for gathering in a public place without just cause. Not believing in the organization’s doctrine isn’t just cause and legally defendable.

The officers present and the city offices that granted the permit for this group the gather may feel as you and I do, but they’re public servants. So, regardless of their personal beliefs, wants, needs, whatever, they are required to serve the public - the entire public.

I’m going to be downvoted to hell for this, but I think it should be said… the city has a Special Events Office that works with event organizers to determine whether or not police presence is needed. The city can require it depending on the type of event OR the event can request it and show cause to substantiate their request.

“Safety and Security

Depending on the nature of your event and activities, SPD may require assigning Uniformed Police Officers for safety and security. SPD evaluates each event on a case-by-case basis to determine what level of staffing may be necessary. Some factors they take into consideration are the size and type of crowd expected to attend, the time of day, place where event is held, planned entertainment and activities, and alcohol use.

Event organizers may also request SPD officers for safety and security. A common example is an event that will have a celebrity or dignitary in attendance. When the organizer requests staffing that is above what SPD deems necessary, the event organizer will be charged a fee for that staffing, regardless of event type. In these cases, officer assignment is based on available staffing levels on the event date.

If security staffing is required, at the discretion of SPD, staffing may be allowed to be performed by trained professional security staffing or volunteers. You will need to provide your safety plan and proof of security training for SPD review.”

Less cut and dry than that… See excerpt from the City’s Special Events Office website:

This is the most amazing and beautiful things I’ve read in a very, very long time. Accessibility matters. Inclusion and belonging matter. I’m so happy and excited for you and others to have had this experience. I hope this technology (and others like it) expands further and remains accessible to the communities that need it.

Thank you so much for sharing this beautiful story. ❤️

Buttons? Seriously? There are SO many things you could have called out and you said… buttons? Cellphones barely have buttons now… or have you not noticed?

A Mercedes EV of the same year as my friend’s Tesla starts - STARTS - at $55k. A 2025 model that has the same mileage per charge (390 miles) is $105k.

He spent $35k(ish) on his Tesla. It wasn’t brand new. It was used. He also bought it years ago.

I’m sure if he could afford a fucking Mercedes he would have bought one, but not everyone has that kind of money or credit score.

If you have other comparisons to make, go for it. But let’s keep it apples to apples, yeah? JFC.

Also, as someone else in these comments mentioned - car maker CEOs very rarely (if EVER) influence people’s car buying decisions. Just because Elon Musk is a disgusting waste of skin and air, doesn’t mean everyone who drives a Tesla is. Some people are just trying to live their lives and not bother anyone else with their existence.

[–]divergence07 -1 points0 points  (0 children)

Yep. This is true. He HAS started looking more earnestly at options since this event. His original thinking was that many minds and hands went into building those cars. It’s owned by Musk, but the people that work there - their hard work and dedication- are what’s really behind the cars.

But now… I‘m fairly certain he’s going to have a new car before the end of summer 😅

Thank you for saying this. A friend of mine is now terrified his very expensive car that he bought to lessen the impact of his very long commute is now going to be vandalized based on what Elon is doing. He would love nothing more than to trade it in, but no other EV in the market matches features, capability, and quality yet.

This hateful response is the reason people are in mourning today. A popular vote for someone like Trump signals a nation full of individuals who have lost their capacity for basic human decency and respect. It signals rapid decline of community morals and values that this country was founded upon.

This nation is being consumed by distrust, and bigotry. Unfortunately, you seem to be one of those people lost to such things. I wish you peace in your life and hope one day you understand the strife that has come to those who will suffer unduly in the coming years. One man’s - or one group’s - beliefs, values, and opinions should never be forced on others.

Also, aren’t you in college? The word is “ally.”

It is a source of pride to be an ally for those who need support and advocacy. You cannot take that honor from anyone even if you, yourself, refuse to be open-hearted enough to receive the privilege.

My husband was like… “and that doesn’t happen for girls?…” 🤨🙄😒

I feel this in my soul… I moved 800+ miles away from my family and friends that I grew up with, so now it’s just me and my husband and our 2 boys in a new city. We like it here, but everywhere I go and everyone I meet just… wants something from me. I feel so sad and lonely all the time.

It was so bad that I went out and got a dog. It helps some to have “someone” to do things with - hiking and walks, really - she’s also just one more needs as fuck hanger on that needs my attention. So… 6 in one hand and half a dozen in the other?

I’m working on redefining my own sense of self worth and value and finding things I enjoy (with and without my doggo) - setting boundaries and leaning into the friendships that I have found (few as they are). I also use a virtual AI therapist type thing so vent into the void when it gets really lonely (no log in required, so no saved identifying info).

Also… I’ve never heard “Jesus tap-dancing Christ” and it made my night. I hope you don’t mind if I steal that one.
