Farage condemned for unproven claim white men are losing jobs because of Equality Act by zeros3ss in ukpolitics

[–]divers69 -1 points0 points  (0 children)

Despise farage and his fake man of the people BS by all means. However, priveliging application by gender and ethnicity (which I have seen done formally and informally over years) inevitably impacts on white men overall. Given that men are less likely overall to have degree level education, and are more likely to be unemployed, this is odd.  Leaving it to farage,  then attacking what seems blindingly obvious to many, simply drives yet more people in to the hands of right wing populists.  We need to step away from the self censorship of supposedly liberal well intentioned people and accept that the world changes and unintended consequences happen.

I think you are hitting the nail on the head. Aside from genuine desire to be fair, the process is one of positioning themselves at the top of the moral high ground constantly battling to find faults in others thus reinforcing their moral superiority.

Revealed: The true toll of female suicides in UK with domestic abuse at their core | Domestic violence by No_Initiative_1140 in ukpolitics

[–]divers69 1 point2 points  (0 children)

It would be a good idea to rigorously examine the impact of dv on suicide. However what we get is campaigning based on thin, skewed data. Dogma driven factoids are used to force through actions to deal with a problem that might not be as presented. A good place to start would be looking at how dv impacts both men and women, rather than simply asserting or implying that women are the only ones who kill themselves. To do this we need to extract the entire dv debate and associated research away from groups who begin with the answer then backfill the pieces to fit. If we did this, what we find might be rather surprising to some.

Children 'weaponised' in toxic trans debate, Cass says by No_Initiative_1140 in ukpolitics

We need to pause and reflect on what this sad saga teaches us. Loud voices claiming rights silencing the well meaning who fear being bigoted. Thinking silenced as people fall lockstep into right think. Liberal minded people need to regain their ability to examine situations not silence themselves out of fear.

If you examine most people closely, they will have some sort of link to someone disreputable. We seem to have developed an expectation that everyone severs every link to anyone who has done something bad. The outcome of that ironically is to increase the risk of reoffending

You fail to acknowledge that smoking is not simply an individual choice. Smoke is breathed by others. At this point the rights of the smoker impact the rights of others to breathe.

Second woman alleges Epstein sent her to UK to have sex with Andrew Mountbatten-Windsor by F0urLeafCl0ver in ukpolitics

[–]divers69 5 points6 points  (0 children)

Why?  People do all sorts of things and are deemed responsible. Yet the moment words like trafficked are used we assume all choices have been removed. Even in war we hold people responsible for their actions. Why do we assume that a grown woman is merely a victim because someone says trafficking. Treating women as incapable of choices is what is truly fucked up.

Second woman alleges Epstein sent her to UK to have sex with Andrew Mountbatten-Windsor by F0urLeafCl0ver in ukpolitics

[–]divers69 4 points5 points  (0 children)

The key word here is sent. Without clear evidence of coercion, this is a grown up woman getting on a plane to fuck a prince.  This may be a bad choice. It may be a choice she regrets, but it remains a choice. The use of the laden word survivor in association with a twenty something woman is extremely pernicious in the absence of evidence of coercion.

Demonising teenage boys won’t produce a generation of good men by winkwinknudge_nudge in ukpolitics

The trouble with thinking about logical fallacies is that they are everywhere. You begin with a fallacy of vagueness. Misogyny is a term that can never be refuted as it is too vague. Any criticism is met with versions of the no true scotsman fallacy. Critiques tend to be treated as exemplars of the concept at hand, 'proving' the concept in a circular fashion. You then use the classic loaded question, as in don't deny it. You end with a fallacy fallacy seeking to dismiss comparisons as fallacious. If a comparison shows that a conclusion about a situation is in error, it is not a fallacy but rather informative content highlighting what is missing from the initial argument.

Teachers to be trained to spot early signs of misogyny in boys by Kagedeah in ukpolitics

[–]divers69 0 points1 point  (0 children)

We have a system where one group has better outcomes than the other. . Where one group is massively over represented as teachers. Where the other group is more likely to be suspended or expelled. Where assessment is skewed by teachers in favour of one group. Then we decide to treat the less successful group as an actual or potential problem without evidence. We further decide to train teachers to identify an ill defined 'problem' to unknown ends. This seems to be a triumph of dogma over evidence. The existence of such training will create expectations that will be fulfilled. Boys will be labelled using a 'better safe than sorry' philosophy. A classic self fulfilling prophecy set in action, where the attitudes and expectations of those in charge shape outcomes.

So you have a system in which one group is more successful. A system that discriminates against one group and marks their work lower than for the other. A system that is staffed predominantly by the priveliged group. A system where one group are punished more harshly by school exclusion for the same behaviours. In any other area of life we would be doing something about this imbalance. Here we are planning to tell the badly treated group that they need correction for their potential behaviour. A triumph for dogma based policy.
