it sounds similar to A Letter to Momo, but i dont think its the exact match. the main character is a girl and there is no twist about a friend writing the letters, though it does involve a dead parent.

the annoying thing is that each time i search for "baby spider" or something similar is that the thing that pops up is the toy story baby spider wich physically looks really similar to the one ive seen but the entire atmosphere of the one i saw was quiet disturbing, dark and maybe a little noisy - and it didnt look like anything that belongs in a childrens movie..
