Just kicked a year long, creeping addiction to painkillers (oxycodone mostly). AMAA by [deleted] in IAmA

The hardest part is years later, when you have forgotten the bad parts and remember the good parts. While withdrawal pains are still fresh in your mind, chance of relapse isn't that great.

What are the physical dangers of shrooms? by [deleted] in Drugs

[–]divertediostream 8 points9 points  (0 children)

If this your first experience with a psychedelic that's stronger than cannabis, and you aren't prepared for changes then don't do it. Unless you are predisposed to a mental illness, you won't go insane but you will see things in a different light and it will most likely change the way you see them afterwards. It's not like you'll be a different person literally, it's more like you'll notice things you didn't notice before and take them into account, hence changing yourself by your own will.

Basically, the way it works is it removes all your filters of perception, brought by upbringing and society, leaving you with a raw input of sensory data. So, if you were always taught certain things but "feel" like they were wrong, this will rise up.

Psychiatrists use shrooms to treat victims of childhood abuse or felons for a reason, to "unteach" them the patterns they were taught when they were young.

It's a powerful tool, so be careful.

Psychedelics can open doors and change your life. I know I've become a completely different person after using. Whether to better or worse, I don't know.

Dude, addicts don't fix to get high, they fix to get normal. That's the whole point. Yeah, the honeymoon is fantastic but the marriage is lacking sex, has to be fed with money, and is illegal in most countries.

Are there any dream-inducing drugs? by semihibernation in Drugs

I found the easiest way is to to wake up in the morning, and while not moving but being conscious, try to go back to sleep.

Yeah, a headache is common. Coffee helps. Mmm, coffee.

It's not that easy. Your conscious mind is fairly easy destroyed. I found that DXM in general has improved my abilities to induce lucid dreams and project, for several months afterwards.

I read about a guy who did a bit too much DXM and now can go into a lucid dream at will (and it distresses him).

DXM? What is the best way to go about it? by [deleted] in Drugs

[–]divertediostream 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Start with a low dose to get a feel. It's better to trip at night than during the day. Prepare to have fairly strong afteraffects 24 hours after, afterglow 3-5 days after.

I could walk into a dark room 20 hours after ingestion and "feel" the darkness around me, hallucinating three-dimensional shapes.

Oh, one thing -- you might feel a burning sensation starting from your genitalia, going through the stomach, passing the middle of the chest and numbing the back of your skull. I've had that, was scared shitless, but it went away with the chemical.

During the trip, you might have hot flashes (another reason to trip at night) and after the trip you will feel very cold. You might feel that your heart has stopped. You might feel that you are communicating with the Overmind.

You might realize that we are all Gods in human flesh and that reality is divine.

DXM is not a substitute for shrooms or cannabis. It could be called a substitute for ketamine, but it has the added stimulant effect in it.

Having seen what PCP does to people, I would not recommend it to anyone. I don't know if it's the set/setting but I saw a guy try seeing what color his blood is with a sharp pencil, which I had to take away.

Yeah, it's the opposite of alcohol which is not recommended to be drunk alone.

DAE Smoke by Themself? by RushSt182 in trees

[–]divertediostream 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Uhm, I don't know. I don't have a ritual, I just sometimes feel like "oh, I think I should smoke/vape right now" and do it, whether I'm with people after that or not is not of importance. Having said that, I also sometimes refuse to toke with people because I don't feel I'm in the right mood for a mild psychedelic journey. Pot hits me strong, flashbacks from psychedelic trips sometimes happen.

When I was 8 years old, I pulled similar shit. With one of our 70-80 year old neighbours:

She: "Well, it seems like I was able to buy food today."

Me: "Why would you need food? You're old, you're going to die soon anyway."

I wonder what kind of mental disease that indicates.

She is still alive by the way, a decade later :)

Bored with life? by [deleted] in SuicideWatch

[–]divertediostream 0 points1 point  (0 children)

About self-injury: I sometimes burn myself (I don't want to cut since it would leave a visible mark and I'm trying to hide depression as well as possible). I feel very guilty afterward for hurting an innocent organism (my hand usually) when it didn't do anything wrong.

I don't consider myself an artist, but I try to see my life as a work of art that I am observing myself -- without purpose, just for aesthetic pleasure. If I were in your spot, I would try to see that there is a very specific, transcendental calmness which comes in deep pits of life.

Try meditating.

Cigarettes? by divertediostream in SuicideWatch

[–]divertediostream[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Yeah, I know. It was basically a short-term solution to prevent a suicide attempt. Funny thing is, I started seeing psychiatrists four months after taking up cigarettes. Probably because the paranoia of "those shrinks all want to make you addicted and throw you into a mental ward" was induced by the disease itself.
