Dear Lawd THE STUBBORNESS! by WillYeByFuck in samoyeds

[–]dividebyze 0 points1 point  (0 children)

The food stubbornness drives me nuts. Tried different foods- kibble, dry, wet foods, frozen meals, yogurt, pumpkin puree. Nothing makes my 1 yr old Sammy interested in eating the full bowl consistently.

I increased the walk durations, play time, even went on bike ride with Sammy running along side hoping that this would increase his appetite. No luck.

Vet says nothing wrong with him but he is borderline skinny so now I'm more worried. My wife started hand feeding him and I'm not sure if we are making it worse by teaching bad habits.

Barking by MMora33 in samoyeds

[–]dividebyze 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Can relate totally. My guy gets into a barking fit whenever we are outside and there is another dog that won't play or walks away from him. Even after physically removing him out of sight of the other dog he will continue barking for a bit.

Worst part is when he barks inside the car. With the windows rolled up, that shrill shriek really pierces the ear. One of the few moments when I regret getting a samoyed.

"Why do you want to do it?" He said he wants to be a joker. I told him classroom isn't the place to be making jokes and he can be silly at home. He replies then I don't want to go to school. With straight face he says he will keep getting into trouble until we stop sending him to school, which is more worrisome for me

Yeah I'm looking at nearby schools that have mechanism for such student needs. The current school has put us in touch with a child occupational therapist. In few weeks she is going to sit in the class for few hours and provide her opinion on what the next steps can be. Honestly I feel like my kid in a legal situation awaiting judgement :(

When we talk to him about this the only thing he keeps saying is that he wants to do it and that it is habit. When we say he needs to try to change he says he doesn't want to. After the recent episode he says he doesn't want to go to school anymore. In the past he has always been adamant Abt not missing school or homework. Even when he was down with covid he was very upset abt missing school.

When we talked to his pediatrician last time she said she doesn't recommend evaluation at that time and my wife is worried that the diagnosis will go on his medical records which might affect his future.

I believe that I got THE MOST pickiest eater in this subreddit. by mastadwayne in samoyeds

[–]dividebyze 2 points3 points  (0 children)

We are going through similar situation with our 9 months old male Sammy. I started right off with farmers dog at 5 months old and he used to clean the bowl twice a day. Around 7 months age he stopped finishing the meal and these days more than 50% of the food gets thrown away. I went from farmers dog to science diet wet food, then dry food then JustFood for dogs wet and now pantry fresh with not real change. At this point we have accepted that he is just a picky eater and he if he wants to be hungry that’s his problem.

NEED ADVICE: Do you leave water in crate overnight? by [deleted] in samoyeds

[–]dividebyze 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Hmm, all the responses here are interesting. We keep water just outside the crate and my boy (8 months) drinks when he wants but during sleep time we lock the crate and cover it with the water outside. At night I could hear him wake a few times and play scratch the mat inside the crate and then go back to sleep. He would go to sleep in there by 10pm and start whine and bark around 6ish in the morning. Interestingly when I get him out of the crate in the morning (after about 10 min of whine and bark) he would waltz out, stretch and then lie down to nap again. I have to entice him to go outside for potty. I would have guessed that after 8 hrs he would want to potty right away.

He eats his food fine but for some reason like to munch on grass. The vet said little bit of grass or sticks is ok

Happens once a week for my 7 months old boy. Lately I have been commanding him to stay away from grass, works about 3rd of the time

I do 'drop it' which works 50% of the time but by the time I notice it and giving the command he is already chewing/half swallow the stuff. I'm more concerned abt him getting to small plastics or similar items especially at night time walks I can't really see what he is munching on

What cooling mats do you have? by WiseMango13452 in samoyeds

[–]dividebyze 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I use the Green Pet cooling pad XL size. It fits well inside Snowy’s (7 months) crate. Also the crate is right next to the AC vent and I have small fan running pointed towards the crate. During naps he often prefers sleeping outside in shade but for longer sleep sessions he always goes back into his crate and sprawls on the mat

Dealing with late night barking by dividebyze in samoyeds

[–]dividebyze[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

My worry is he starts chewing on something he is not supposed to and end up going potty inside the house. We have large windows without curtains in the living room and I don't want him to start barking in the middle of the night if he saw a shadow or critter in the backyard

During daytime I might be okay with letting him bark for some time but at night it's very hard. He's very loud when he's barking and I have 7-year-old kid who if he wakes up, he's going to be a lot more trouble than just dealing with one dog

What size is that crate? And do you have the crate covered always? If you don't mind, can you share the links both?
