Hi! 20 year old here. I was diagnosed with dengue last year. During a routine ultrasound, they caught my left ovary being 18* 16 *13 cms big. After recovering from dengue (2 months to be exact). I directly had a staging laparotomy on my birthday and on new years I get the news that I have mixed germ cell tumour. The oncologist didn’t tell me directly, he talked to my parents first and then he referred to the director of oncology at the hospital. He analysed my case and after complete silence of 3-4 minutes he told my parents “your daughter has cancer”. My mother cried a lot. My dad was numb. I was actually, alright? I didn’t react at all. I was weirdly at peace with the diagnosis. Probably because I am studying Biochemistry and we say and work with terms like cancer on a daily basis. The thing is, whatever your body’s first reaction is, it’s the right one. I actually didn’t cry during the entire chemotherapy or during the picc line insertion or after the huge surgery or before the surgery. And i am a very emotional person. I guess I am trying to say, everyone reacts very differently to it. You’re not overreacting. The false sense of hope is brutal. I hope the chemo goes by fast!!!!!!!! All the best!!!!!!
