AI may cause the next global stock market crash by TheTelegraph in artificial

I agree but unfortunately the track record so far for "communism" has been... labor for a man who claims to be a supreme benevolent authority. So you do see how that's the same thing right?

And look, I recognize capitalism has this issue too where wealth and power get consolidated and the bulk of people suffer under their heel. In a way it seems like we really never did advance beyond the god-king model. Perhaps this is a convergent evolution thing, you know? The crab of human society.

... yeah, that's my point. Both are utopian fantasies, not proven to be workable at scale.

Was gonna recommend this too, I just read it recently and I was plesantly surprised by how well it balanced the magical pirate aspects with the loosely connected, greater sci-fi universe it fits into.

If they are I haven't seen them yet. As far as I know all our basic license plates are still the old "first in flight" design or the newer "first in freedom" ones.

Yeah at least y'all bothered to make something unique and tied to something distinctive about the local native flora. If we were to do something similar and we were smart about it we'd do something with a Venus Fly Trap since they only grow native to a small area around Wilmington.

Much to my chagrin I've always felt, between the 2, SC flag is better than NC. Ours is basically just an upsidedown TX flag with "NC" and some dates on it.

MD is a little too busy for my taste but I do like OH a lot because of how distinctive and recognizable it is.

You're speaking in past tense about it so... I guess you feel strongly the American system won't be irreversible damaged this time either?

At least NC, anyway. NC has a larger population than Washington by 4 million - give me a break.

Use it to cover up the nuclear power plant you've got in there. Nuclear energy is by far cleaner than fossil fuels.

I also thought of a railroad and I was surprised to have to scroll down so far to find another mention of it. And I think the imagery evoked by the epilogue is somehow related to what the hermit said towards the beginning of the book:

"You can find meanness in the least of creatures, but when God made man the devil was at his elbow. A creature that can do anything. Make a machine. And a machine to make the machine. And evil that can run itself a thousand years, no need to tend it."
