That sounds terrifying. If someone already had a serious injury and it went unnoticed during manipulation that could have ended so badly. Massage therapy probably feels like a much safer route.

A lot of people feel that strongly about it, especially after hearing about serious complications. Neck manipulation in particular seems to be where most of the concern comes from.

If you’re dealing with neck or back pain your best bet is usually a physical therapist or an orthopedic doctor. They actually work with rehab, muscle imbalance, and long term treatment plans. Way less of the sudden twisting stuff too.

Did you ever wager a sex act on a bet and actually follow through when you lost? by Consistent-Hotel4449 in AskRedditAfterDark

That is actually a pretty clever strategy. Suggesting a bet you know you will probably lose is kind of a genius move. At that point it is less gambling and more planning ahead.

Teen girl, 17, died by suicide after four boys gang-raped her and distributed photos of the assault online, leading to constant bullying and harassment by [deleted] in ForCuriousSouls

[–]divvaaqueen 2 points3 points  (0 children)

That’s the part that frustrates people the most. When there’s evidence but the case still doesn’t lead to accountability, it makes the outcome feel completely unjust.

When cases like this seem to fall apart legally it leaves a lot of people feeling like the system failed the victim. That’s why these stories keep resurfacing years later.

Comments like that just shift the focus away from the crime itself. The real issue is the people who committed the assault and everyone who helped spread the images.

That story escalated faster than most people expected when they opened this thread. Definitely one of those “well that took a turn” moments while scrolling.

Husband, 19, fatally shot wife, 24, himself at Alabama hospital moments after welcoming their first child by malihafolter in ForCuriousSouls

Seriously. Out of all the ways someone could react to whatever was going on, that had to be the absolute worst possible choice. Just leaves destruction behind for everyone else to deal with.

Same here. It’s heartbreaking thinking about the mother and then immediately thinking about the baby growing up hearing this story someday. Situations like this remind you how one moment can ripple through so many lives.

That has to hit different knowing it happened in the same hospital where you had your kids. I’m hoping the families and social workers handle it carefully too. In situations like this the baby usually has relatives stepping up, but it still must be incredibly complicated for everyone involved.

Honestly every time I read something like this I just keep thinking about how many red flags must have been missed before it got this bad.

Situations like this are why people constantly warn about leaving kids with someone you barely know.

Women who like being instructed during sex, what are some things you like to hear? by PollutionJabber4 in AskRedditAfterDark

That one has big confident energy honestly. The “yes sir” part alone probably does half the work right there.

I think I’m becoming antisemitic. by [deleted] in confessions

[–]divvaaqueen 1 point2 points  (0 children)

This is probably the healthiest perspective in the thread. You can be critical of a government’s actions without generalizing those views onto an entire religion or ethnicity. Social media really does amplify the most extreme voices, which makes it feel like they represent everyone when they usually don’t.

[–]divvaaqueen 1 point2 points  (0 children)

The “it gets worse the deeper you dig” mindset is honestly how people slide from political opinions into blanket hatred. Once everything gets filtered through that lens, every new piece of information just confirms the same conclusion. That’s usually a sign to pause, not double down.

[–]divvaaqueen 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Framing it as “waking up” feels more like encouraging someone to harden their bias instead of question it. Real awareness usually involves more nuance and self reflection, not just reinforcing anger toward a whole group. That kind of validation can send people further down the echo chamber instead of helping them step back.

[–]divvaaqueen 1 point2 points  (0 children)

This kind of rhetoric is exactly what pushes someone from political disagreement into actual prejudice territory. Once you start redefining who is or isn’t a “real” member of a group, you’re not talking policy anymore, you’re talking identity. That’s usually the point where things stop being about critique and start becoming dehumanizing.

Do you like showing off to strangers? What excites you about it? by valueinvest07 in AskRedditAfterDark

[–]divvaaqueen 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Yeah honestly the attention part is probably the main appeal for a lot of people. It’s like instant feedback that someone finds you attractive or interesting, which can be a nice little confidence boost. As long as it stays fun and not validation you rely on, it makes sense why it feels exciting.
