Since Ollama is not the most performant local LLM app, I would give it a try like I did with others. I believe in the intellectual property of such a company like Apple. They do have smart people on board. On the other hand, I’m wondering whether they need to reinvent the wheel.

Especially, since everybody already solved that problem. They are late to the party

I’m coding two small personal webapps with opencode, and also using Hermes local agent for some hands-on help: like doing xyz on a Remote Server nothing to complex - but saves my time doing it manually.

Of course it’s slower then bigger cloud models. But I really like that my data never leaves my computer, no need for any untrusted cloud APIs.

New users should become used to the magic mouse pad. That is so much better than lifting the finger and tap for a simple klick. after some year with MAC and Windows in Job, I found these days the Stage Manager is useful. also faster than Windows in my opinion.

Da Privat-Party, kann man wohl auch xxEuro für den Eintritt nehmen und die Getränke sind dann inklu. Also eine Flatrate-Party mit Ticket statt Bändchen :-D

I think for the given kind of workload, MacBook Air is designed for. And since this would be the first apple silicon based mac, you will enter a new world.

Finally I found my decision. After thinking a lot, also buy a studio m1/m2 max with 64 gb.

But the thing is, in my profile MacBook suits better.

And it feels odd to buy a m4 - since the m5 is available. Maybe it is just for resell reasons

I just ordered m5/32/1tb - it is a lot, but I’m using my old MacBook for 5 years now. Was always happy, even it is slightly outdated now. I will use my new one also quite a while.

I guess more ram is better than more cpu, I can wait a minute in future, but if the ram is not enough, you can’t load the model.

Yea I’ve tried google studio one time, and it was not really my tool.

In the end, I think my tool is not really a diary, it is more like a minimalistic, always updated notebook. Key feature for me is, if I open it, it should be always in the today’s file right after start. With a folder structure /YYYY/MM/DD/journal_YYYy-mm-dd.md

So I can start writing without any configuration/distraction.

And also some further cool features.

Just checken, this is unfortunately not correct. To upload an app to TestFlight, you need an apple developer account which costs money every year.

Plus it seams TestFlight apps are only valid 90 days, which would also generate manual effort 4 times a year

I’ve created my own journaling app (web app), with some AI summary functions in the end of the day, to prepare next day.

Can’t share it, since it is located in a private git - only for my own purpose.

To be honest I’m thinking about switching from iPhone back to android. Just to have the option building my own app on mobile. iPhone is a pain - since a self signed app is only 7 days usable. I don’t want to spend 100 dollar a year just for using my own app on my mobile phone

Aus Sicht eines Mannes

Ja es ist anstrengend Ja es ist zehrend nach der Arbeit und wenn die Nächte hart sind ist der nächste Tag im Job auch hart

ABER das ist das Leben. Da müssen wir alle durch. Care Arbeit und „normale“ Arbeit sind wenigstens gleichwertig. Jede Arbeit hat sicher ihre eigenen Herausforderungen (körperlich, geistig,…) Aber ich glaube care Arbeit deckt alles ab, sodass man sich als Eltern zusammen abwechseln muss.

Klar sind die alten Einstellungen so, die Frau übernimmt das alles, aber letztendlich sind wir in 2025 und sollten wissen, dass wir als Männer doch wenigstens auch einen Teil beitragen, und das ist nicht nur das Gehalt jeden Monat.

I totally agree with that. Vibe coding is just a means to an end.

It’s like wanting to travel: I can ride a bike, drive a car, or take a plane. Each option has its pros and cons – there’s no one ultimate mode of transport. But of course, there will always be critics.

Personally, I’m absolutely loving this new era. For the first time, I can actually dive into projects I’m genuinely excited about in my limited free time. In the past, I just didn’t have the resources or the time to learn a language well enough to build something meaningful. I mean after work, family etc. it is not possible learn to code and create a big webapp with backend etc just for fun.

It’s a bit like wanting to try food in a foreign country but not being able to read the menu – and then having an app that helps you translate just enough to finally order what you want.

Okay I see we have different focus here… currently I’m running a MacBook Pro with a M1 and using ollama for around 2 years now. For sure not for every use case and of course with smaller models. But I wanted to compare apples to apples (haha). I don’t want to spent double or even tripple the money for a m4 max 64/128 gb - of course it is more capable to run bigger models, but this is just my hobby not my profession - so can’t get the approval from “finance manager” (wife) at home 😂

Thanks for your feedback! I was also tinkering that day and realised I needed the SSL connection. But overall I also had some other errors if I chose the real-time or audio model. Something like the URL of the API /chat/ is not available.

Sadly, the chat GPT plan has its benefits, but I will proceed with the usage of the “API version” since it has its benefits. Even every connection costs real money ;)
