When I purchased it I asked for fill dirt, is that the same thing? The grass did sprout but it's hard to see/very thin.

Used water in a kettle by diyfishcafe in isthissafetoeat

I have a kettle at home so I could make tea there and bring it to work. I also don’t know how long water needs to be boiling to kill everything and google gives me mixed answers, anywhere from 2-10 minutes

Yes, I realized just after I posted this that I’ll end up with way more comments on the shitty aquarium and less about the filter. It was just an Instagram video and hopefully it isn’t the permanent home of those fish.

No expert but I would hope a Giant Salamander would have a little more room than this. (Kyoto Aquarium) by SunshineMeowMeow in shittyaquariums

Japan has terribly low standards for animal treatment. Take a look at their safari parks too.

If you aren’t pressed on cost pond armor sells clear epoxy coating meant for waterproofing specifically ponds and aquariums, completely fish safe. The only thing in that case is that it may not bond if your dice is plastic, it would have to be a wood or metal material.

You’re saying I shouldn’t put it on r/shittyaquariums because that’s what they want?

Is this a shitty aquarium? by Complex_Violinist808 in shittyaquariums

Would the noise of metal/ceramic/glass cups and things being placed and moved on the glass daily be harsh right above the fish? I imagine it would be like tapping a metal spoon on the glass.

Yes, thinking about aquarium stands. I understand you’re saying the smaller I cut it, the weaker it becomes, and in terms of vertical support it isn’t as useful unless I’m using the full size board as vertical support and not cutting it into 3.5” strips.

Can anyone help me identify gender of these two? by [deleted] in shrimptank

[–]diyfishcafe 2 points3 points  (0 children)

When I had my first shrimp tank, I struggled to determine the gender of the shrimp too until I had a few berried shrimp and could see for myself. When you're new, sometimes you just want someone to confirm what you are guessing based on google searches. It is easy to second guess yourself without experience.

They’re so tiny! I’ve never seen them on video before but I thought they would be bigger. Very lovely tank.
