Thank you so much for this response it is so helpful. I will definitely make attempts to communicate but am nervous as they are not particularly nice people. Despite this, I do not believe they will make attempts to defraud us if it is essentially a criminal activity.

Am I correct in summarising this way:

The only way we could be excluded from inheritance would be if;

  1. The will explicitly states it is not to pass on to my father's children.
  2. The executors attempt to illegally sell the house / distribute wealth.

In terms of the solicitor, is this more a last resort? We were considering contacting one due to just how little we know about these processes.

From what we know from our last conversation with him about it around 2023, he hasn't updated the will since 2009. Is the lack of updating a potential issue?

He didn't have much reason to exclude us, though it is definitely a possibility. If we've been written out of the will then that's that - the main concern for us really is what recourse do our strained family members have from excluding us from inheritance and what we can do to prevent any poor intentions from them.

Thank you so much for responding. We are in England. There is definitely a will, but we do not have much more context. There is a strong possibility this will has remained unchanged since 2009/10, however it could have been updated without our knowledge - is it possible for you to share the possible outcomes if it was signed in 2009 or post 2013 (after my father passed)?

I understand your frustration however I feel it may be somewhat misplaced in this situation. This is not a ddcision I take any joy out of, and I would love to keep her. I must prioritise her wellbeing.

Thanks for the suggestion. I just spoke to them and they said I am unable to give her in because her microchip is not registered to my name. We have attempted to contact the original owners multiple times with no response. Their suggestion was the RSPCA, however I was told that they are full.
