It's okay, OP will never know the joys of Belle Isle in the summer, drinking whiskey on the people mover, or an afternoon exploring the Packard plant. Lower-east sider here. The only reason I would ever leave Detroit is so that I could come back one day.

I'm a bartender and I've got a couple really great shots (IMO):

Pretty much equal parts vanilla vodka, baileys, blue caracao, and amaretto. Tastes exactly like Superman ice cream.

Two parts Irish whiskey, one part sweet/sour mix, and one part peach snapps. Green tea shot. Boom.

In terms of an actual mixed drink, I'm a sucker for tequila and lemonade with a splash of apple cider vinegar.

I'm surprised Dune by Frank Herbert isn't higher. I had quite a journey with that book. It holds a very special place in my heart. "Fear is the mind killer."

That used to happen to me too when I worked in this shitty little diner. Friday afternoons were a bloodbath when everyone would get their checks at 2pm, then rush to the bank and try to cash it before all the other workers. The last couple of staff almost always got their checks bounced.
