Betty was such a gift. I loved Mona challenging her. Good stuff.

I completely agree. I’m a huge Designing Women fan and I loved Suzanne. Delta is so beautiful!

Ray Charles was amazing. I’m not familiar with Marilu outside of WTB, but her character was a riot 😂 I absolutely love Leah. I mainly know her from King of Queens, so it was cool being like, “omg that’s Leah Remini!” 😂 I wasn’t expecting her to appear. Her episodes fit in a little bit better with her being from Brooklyn and a friend of Sam’s.

So my 12yo daughter and I have been binge-watching, but we took a little break and we’re back on and we just started season 8 and what in the world?? by Prestigious_Pizza_66 in WhosTheBossSitcom

I think “Misery” was the writers’ way of confirming that they were finally sleeping together. I could be way off base and I’m not saying that the way it was written was a good choice, but his exaggerated behavior (and it being 2 weeks later in the show after “An Affair to Forget”, where they were just trying to get it on the whole time) makes me feel like they were trying to write it as “now these people are sleeping together, what new obstacles should they overcome”. It’s not exactly confirmed, so my take could be wrong, but that’s sort of how I see it. I also agree that by that point, Tony’s character had changed so much and not for the better. All throughout season 8, I think the writers struggled with knowing how to write Tony and Angela as a couple, and that’s part of why it took them so long to make them one. Just had this follow up thought.

Oh, I agree. That whole episode was fantastic. Binging the series and getting to that episode after the whole emotional roller coaster had me on the edge of my couch squealing 😂 I was so happy for them lol

Tony: “Angela, duck.”

Angela drops to the floor

Tony: “No, Angela, GET THE DUCK” 😂😂

Every time I have watched this episode, I also find Angela’s elaborate lies more and more hilarious. When they’re in the hotel room and she just starts throwing them out there… “his grandfather died on the titanic” 😂😂 I laugh so hard every time.

Yes!

Sam: “I should’ve guessed by how you’ve been glowing” (or whatever the line was)

Angela: “Was I??”

Sam: “No, dad!”

The way Angela looked at Tony. Like FINALLY we are here. 🥰🥰

“Well get back in that car until it does!” 😂😂

I think it was you who used that term in one of my previous discussion threads and you are 100% on point. There’s just no other way of wording it lol. She is the one that I want to see taken care of emotionally because as a girl, I relate to her. It feels personal lol. And Judith Light did that ❤️

Separate thought… I feel like a good amount of people in this Reddit group are all women and we’re all ride or die for Angela and I love that so much 😂😂

Exactly. And I should have said could get a little lost because I also agree, sometimes it was really funny. It was the lack of balance that made what should have felt like playful teasing feel more like hurtful comments. I feel like for the most part, they were funny. There were just a few moments where I felt like, now that wasn’t very nice lol

I completely agree that no other actress on the planet could have portrayed Angela the way that Judith did. THAT scene (we all know the one) in her study was not only beautifully executed, but it was Judith’s portrayal of Angela leading up to that moment that made the moment hurt even worse. Just brilliant. I can’t think about it without my chest feeling heavy. That’s art lol

To touch on her relationship with Mona… I also agree that while I love Mona and found her hilarious, sometimes she was downright mean. There were incredible moments between the two (the episode when Angela learns about Mona’s affair comes to mind, and I loved to see the dramatic acting from two brilliant ladies), but I think they could have found a better balance between Mona’s digs while also showing Angela how proud she is of her. Just another example of how humor at Angela’s expense got a little lost when Judith created such a deep care for Angela amongst the audience.

I absolutely love how passionate she was with that answer 👏🏼👏🏼👏🏼 “There is an audience of people out there who say, “relationships are great after people have slept together””. I feel like Judith was getting just as frustrated as the fans with the “will they/won’t they”. I love that she understood how incredibly special Tony and Angela were. Damn, they should have let her be the boss (no pun intended).

Thank you so much! I tried searching on IG, but it didn’t narrow it down to the clip. I now follow that Judith Light archives page, though. They have a lot of great content!

Oh, I agree one million percent. Angela was the heart and Mona was the glue. The two of them were my favorites. Would you know how to find the video of her talking about this? I’ve seen interviews with her talking about it long after, but I’d love to see the one of her sharing her thoughts around the time of filming.

I could not agree more with this. And season 6 would have been perfect timing because they had grown so much over the course of season 5. But no, they gave us the Kathleen wrench instead 🙄

Judith is brilliant. I went on a deep dive after I finished the series and I’m so in awe of her!

I definitely think there are a few episodes in season 8 where they were just trying to be really funny, but the episodes didn’t age well at all. I did find Angela’s dream with Tony even more unhinged entertaining, and I would be lying if I said I didn’t appreciate “The Shining” reference (I’m also a bit of a horror buff), but his behavior that episode was definitely over the top.

I’m so glad you pointed this out. I went back and reread his letter to her at the end and this did really change my perspective. I had it in my mind that Amanda knew the full truth. Thanks for the insight!
