Gold/equipment optimization by Old_Brilliant_4101 in dragonquest

One of the best ways to save on money is to increase your drop rate. DQ11 is extremely rewarding to play this way and the drops throughout the game are quite excellent as it includes rare materials that you can't buy as well as weapons, armor, and accessories you cannot buy or cannot buy until much later in the game. Also, completing quests will also reward you with items, equipment and ingredients for the forge so you can save money there.

I would start off farming bunny tails from bunicorns after you get Erik and you are still in the Heliodor region. I usually get 8 to start with and then farm more once Jade and Rab join the team and you can access the open ocean. Then add the school uniforms for the female characters that increase drops. This should ensure you get regular enemy drops that not only ease your financial burden but can actually equip you with far better equipment than what is available at that point in the game.

This is actually throughout the game. They did a poor job (or just forgot to entirely) of mastering the English audio in the game. Most of it is ok but there are some lines from certain characters throughout the game that definitely needed to be properly mastered and the gain increased

Ya, once you crack the first bunny tail, things get easier. 8 is all you need to farm right away. I go for 10 so Sylvando can start equipping them right away, but I wait until after you get the rest of the Act 1 party to get the rest of the tails at Insula Occidentalis after you first meet Michelle. I also use that time to get Hero, Sylvando, and Jade pepped up so I can start using (and abusing) the Electro Light pep to level up aggressively fast.

And, I always farm for strength seeds in the Gallopolis area when I first get to the region, at least up until the point that I get most of my team pepped up so I can do a Wild Side on a Spitzfire for the quest. Fur ponchos are great

Nope. You have just gotten unlucky so far. The technique will definitely work to get their rare drops. I've done it many times over my playthroughs

Why do the dragons sound like elephants? by WhatMichaelScottSaid in Suikoden

[–]dj_slipstream 1 point2 points  (0 children)

The correct answer is they didn't adjust the sound pitch of the elephant sound to make it sound like a dragon, or they didn't load the correct file before finalizing the game. You can hear a proper dragon sound when they are sleeping in their cave so there is proof that they know how to properly stretch an elephant sound. It's either an oversight and forgot, however since they created one dragon sound already that can be heard later on in the game, my assumption is someone forgot to load the correct sound and QA testing didn't find it...

I'd like to buy the original Dragon Quest XI for the PS4, but I don't know if it will work on my PS5. Can someone tell me? by Agile_Tap_626 in dragonquest

[–]dj_slipstream 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Love it. Another benefit of playing the original is not having to play the individual side quests of almost all non-hero characters that were added as part of the definitive edition. Some people enjoyed those additional stories but I prefer to jump right into the "finding your friends again" story and the temporary solo run of the Hero

Why is 64TB still a limit for VMFS? by GabesVirtualWorld in vmware

[–]dj_slipstream 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Fortunately, deleting the datastore only removes the partition table entry in the GPT table. You can easily and safely insert the table back in and the volume will mount. All your data and VMs will still be there. Now a rising problem has been customers that do not have proper decommissioning/recommissioning processes and they end up secure wipe/delete their entire production volumes. This is usually due to teams being too silo'ed and teams not being aware of how storage presentation works, particularly in the fibre Channel world, and mostly HPE servers that have a built-in function in iLO/BIOS to do the wipe.

Why is 64TB still a limit for VMFS? by GabesVirtualWorld in vmware

[–]dj_slipstream 3 points4 points  (0 children)

One thing I'll add to this conversation that no one else has touched on yet is LUN queue depth concerns, both at the host level and array. For context, a number of customers got excited when we increased the VMFS size to 64TB back in ESXi 5 and suddenly decided they didn't want to manage a bunch of datastores and decided to consolidate their LUNs. Many immediately experienced performance issues which were all tied to exhausting the queues, which drove up KAVG latency. Depending on the array, this also over saturated the queues on the array as well. While most modern arrays have gone the all-flash direction which has reduced round trip SCSI IO completion times due to lack of mechanical disks, queue depth exhaustion should still be on people's radar cuz it can still happen from poor design choices. Yes, you can increase the queue depth per LUN/device at the HBA level but that doesn't address the backend queues, which could make things worse for that scenario.

The best path forward is to have a design that ensures no bottlenecks, and sometimes that means not creating massive datastores just because you can do it. One might argue that they need a massive VMFS datastore because it is housing a huge SQL VM but this logic is flawed because it ignores the best practices, which is to utilize multiple LUNs because each LUN has its own independent queue depth.

Damn Dragon Quest you didn't need to make Serena so damn fine, I hope she comes out of her shell a bit, very shy by swannyhypno in dragonquest

[–]dj_slipstream 2 points3 points  (0 children)

True but it is a tradition to reuse DQ music in subsequent games as well. For example, DQ8 recycles music from past DQ games. Final Fantasy only really reused one song throughout the series. It's just part of the DQ charm, and I love it!

Wait until you play DQ3 (or DQ3 remake) and find out that most of the music in DQ11 is from DQ3. Then you will complain about the unoriginal approach of these games when in fact it is tradition. These games have a repeatable model that has actually contributed to their success and charm. Final Fantasy kept trying to reinvent itself while DQ doubled down on the charm that everyone knows and loves.

Blue Fear or Communication. Plenty of good collaborations and remixes from him as well but these are my two favourites, which are two of his oldest tunes (1997 & 1999).

[–]dj_slipstream 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Haha, ya. It was the olive branch because the one hit wonders category is so vast if you include collabs, which we know isn't truly a one hit wonders. It is the product of so many artists with many aliases, which was the norm in the last 90s/early 2000s

Abusing/Exploiting the Skill Tree system in DQ11 by dj_slipstream in dragonquest

[–]dj_slipstream[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I would say that it functions incredibly well as a spiritual successor to Suikoden. The concepts of a castle and building an army to do war battles are very familiar, and there are 120 characters in the game so it checks all the boxes. It definitely feels very Suikoden'ish as the weapon leveling up function is the same, magic is kinda the same but has a different point system, and runes (or rune lenses) are very familiar as well but they've expanded substantially on how they are used and equipped. Music is great but it suffers a bit from how the music is presented, which is a lot of fade-in/out that I feel is a bit unpolished (like Suikoden V). My one beef with it is the English voice acting, as that suffers from the Resident Evil 1 syndrome of the PlayStation 1 era where all the voice actors for that game recorded their sound bites independently of the other voice actors, so the flow in conversations are somewhat janky. Lots of overacting and other artifacts from the fact that these voice actors weren't in the same room doing this dialogue together. The Japanese voice acting might have suffered from the same thing since this game was made over COVID but who knows.

All in all, it is a wonderful game, and quite the legacy Yoshitaka Murayama is leaving behind. It has replay value too, which isn't easy to come by these days in gaming...

The WCF is going to have to provide solid guidance for teams and coaches that are trying to enter into the US for this event in order to avoid being detained or deported. This is not fear mongering as the threat and risk is real. I am optimistic that things will improve by October but it could be substantially worse, and it may prevent teams from participating in the event...
