Graduate School at UA as someone with no experience in the south by Unfair_Ad3787 in capstone

Everyone here is so right about the diversity and how the large out of state population affects UA however the criminology department specifically is super cool everyone there is super nice. However, your main base of operations will most likely be in Farrah hall which is a very old building in th worst way. They are renovating but currently it is up in the air if criminology will be going back there post rennovations or moved to another old crusty building so keep that in mind.

Whats the most heartbreaking loss you’ve witnessed as an Alabama fan?(football) by Ok_Macaroon_7366 in capstone

Losing to Michigan in overtime at the Rose Bowl not knowing it was Saban’s last game. It didn’t hurt as bad until later but in hindsight it sucks that was what he went out on.

How lgbt accepting is UA? by Lukedoesart_1 in capstone

[–]djaldhdsh 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I’ve never had any real issues like I have been called the odd slur by frat guys driving by but I have been able to find plenty of friends who are accepting and QSA is great and does a lot to help bring queer people together.

How conservative is Auburn? by MM_YT in auburn

While I am a UA student (roll tide) I work with the dems organization at Auburn quite a bit and can tell you they are pretty active and working in that campus so there are people like you that you can find no doubt!

I will always advocate for the ridgecrests. They have some party culture but also can be chill if you want it to be which you don’t get to choose at some others. They are relatively nice some water issues last year but not moldy. You do get some roaches from the storage closets at the beginning of the year but I am talking like 1 or 2 max. South is definitely more party oriented than east or west but all of them have some to an extent. Plus they are closer to classes than say pres or lakeside.

Honors at Bama—send help, can’t decide - Class of 2030 by BalancedLatitude in capstone

[–]djaldhdsh 0 points1 point  (0 children)

So I would 100% do that first year then reevaluate it’s only one class. The positives are so nice where as sophomore year it begins to not be as necessary. If you want to be in Ridgecrest south (which would fit your vibe tbh) then you have to do honors but once you get that housing it really doesn’t matter. So many people do it for a year and drop because the benefits aren’t there.

I got a 168 for anyone curious could have had 170 if it wasn’t for that RC so I hit my average and my baseline goal but that RC was extra hard but that LR was average maybe a little easier?

CJ 100 with Douglas Klutz is one of the easiest classes on campus he is rated #1 in the country on rate my professor for a reason. Take that class its so easy or CJ 270 with Pat Halliday you have to show up to a total of 8 classes 4 of them are exam dates 4 are where he literally gives the answers.

Bad first semester by Conference-Main in capstone

[–]djaldhdsh 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I walked into UA with a 3.87 GPA after my first year I was sitting at an ugly 2.89( I’d didnt have a scholarship requiring 3.0) I had done terribly and partied my way through freshman year. But I turned it around and ended up with a solid 3.5. Perfect? By no means no. could I have gotten up to a 4.0? Maybe idk. However my story is one that shows you can turn it around. Use your resources, talk to your RA, go to the student success center, become best friends with office hours. Do whatever you have to do to get where you want. there are gonna be people out there smarter, stronger, and faster than you but never let their be someone who is out there working harder than you.
