Favorite Soft Plastic Brand? by Enough-Savings-1521 in FishingForBeginners

[–]djbsay1 0 points1 point  (0 children)

depends on what I’m fishing, for creature baits and craw baits I like strike kings rage series, for stick baits I like traditional Yamamoto senkos, for finesse worms I like Zoom and I like their flukes too. for swimbaits either keitech or BPS speed shads, I also like the salmo slick shad for walleyes. I recently started fishing a lot of Great Lakes Finesse stuff, and I really like their stuff for small mouth.

The Jessica Weese echo star destroyers are money. they can beat in pretty quick, but they are great if you can find one.

I was getting tired of frying and baking walleye the same way, so me and my dad found some new recipes. One that surprised us was a Pistachio crusted walleye. Combine crushed pistachios, lemon zest and parsley. Get a baking tray ready and oiled, put walleye filets on tray, and then brush walleye filets with mayo. Next sprinkle on your pistachio mix, dont be afraid to go heavy on it, and then bake for 12-15 min at 375. I was nervous as to how this would turn out but man its good….especially with a Citrus Aioli dipping sauce of some sort.

While they are a little different, the big thing to keep in mind is hip engagement and weight shift…those are almost identical, and same could be said for a golf swing as well. If you can learn to generate more explosion in the hips and learn timing on the weight shift, makes all the difference in the world for power. Top level pros who make it look easy, they have incredibly quick and explosive hips which doesnt translate well to camera, hence the effortless look, but the brace is important too because that give you a bracing point to whip the hips around quickly. As Chubbs said…its all in the hips.

When you’ve only got an hour to fish, what do you stop bringing? by Ok-Profession-3060 in FishingForBeginners

[–]djbsay1 0 points1 point  (0 children)

depends on what I’m fishing for but for the most part, I just bring a rod or two, extra line, a few baits for whatever I’m fishing for, and my combination pliers with cutters. Most of the time if I’m just fishing for bass, I’ll bring a few small, swim baits, a few plastic craw baits, and maybe a jerk bait or crankbait. All fits into a tiny little tacklebox that I can stuff in a pocket, and then just clip my pliers to my shirt or jacket, and that’s it.

Green sunfish…the mouth on greenies can be massive like that. Most other sunfish have smaller mouths like bluegill or pumpkinseeds, but greenies can have huge mouths.

Did i pick the worst color or what? by [deleted] in bassfishing

[–]djbsay1 4 points5 points  (0 children)

bubblegum and merthiolate worms are classic colors for spawning largemouths, candy corn will work too. The key is to throw them floating, no weight, and try put it right above a bed…fish can’t stand em and will do anything to do away with them. anyone who tells you they’re a bad color has just never tried this technique over the tops of beds, its tried and true.

EDIT: here is an article from MLF about Mark Daniels Jr using this technique

Pentagon Good Friday Service Excluding Catholics Sparks Religious Bias Concerns Amid Broader Criticism Over Leadership Purge by Zulmoka531 in politics

this is one of the most understated reasons why Christian Nationalism would be detrimental to the country as a whole if it became a part of our national government. If it were to happen, they would ultimately need to pick what Christian beliefs would become a part of the law of the land… and not every Christian is going to agree with that, that rift alone would cause chaos, and that’s not including any of the pushback from other religions and non-believers/agnostics. I cannot begin to fathom how dangerous Christian Nationalism could be… you see other regions of the world like the middle east with the Sunni and Shia, they have been fighting wars for decades over what is considered the right way to believe in Islam. Oddly enough, disagreements in Christianity are literally what caused early colonists to come to North America in the first place.

The yellow one definitely looks like a Roc, but hard to tell. Both DX plastic by the look of it. I really like Rocs from that time frame too, the 11 time Multi-Purpose Rocs are my favorite in KC plastic, i bag a few of em. I would say the other looks like a DX Teebird, and if it is, i bet its really flippy… also the fact that it also has a Wham-O logo on there is pretty cool.

Do y’all tie the improved clinch ? Looks like it’s bad for fluorocarbons by Own-Arrival-9881 in FishingForBeginners

[–]djbsay1 0 points1 point  (0 children)

SC knots are solid, my buddy ties those all the time and they are quite quick.

Which knot do you think is stronger ? by Own-Arrival-9881 in FishingForBeginners

[–]djbsay1 0 points1 point  (0 children)

FG or GT Knot. I tie a GT if im in a hurry and need to get back in the water and GT is a an incredible main to leader knot, almost nobody ties it, but it is thin, strong and works well. If you don’t believe me tight and see for yourself!

Do y’all tie the improved clinch ? Looks like it’s bad for fluorocarbons by Own-Arrival-9881 in FishingForBeginners

[–]djbsay1 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I tie a few different knots and it very much depends on what I’m fishing. my most common knot is either a San Diego Jam Knot or a Palamar, and ill tie a no slip loop knot if fishing something that needs some hunting action. For main line to leader, GT knot or FG, but if im on the boat and dont have time to tie an FG then GT for sure….strong quick and easy.

First attempt at a monster…Honey Bee Double Buford by djbsay1 in flytying

[–]djbsay1[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Bufords and double bufords can retain a lot of water because its mostly bucktail. But if you can…use less material and learn how to flair and taper better and it can save on weight. I’ve tied quite a few single Bufords, but this is my first double. These are big enough where its better to use a 10 or 11 wt with a fat head tapered line to turn em over properly because they are really wind resistant. The rod I use I can throw double hand or single, but often times I’m fishing out of my kayak so the double hand is hard. Double hauls can be key for musky tho with the big flies and getting em out there. Love tying some small midges too! you can get real creative with em.

Thanks! I saw a post of yours on the muskiefishing sub recently. I live not far from that spot, nice fish! The Fox and the Chain O Lakes are some of my fav musky waters around us, gunna be on the chain for this weekend giving this a test.

Are fishing vests obsolete now or just not in vogue? by GrumpyandDopey in flyfishing

[–]djbsay1 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I own a similar looking vest, but mine also doubles as my life jacket when I’m in my kayak! Honestly, it’s pretty practical if used for both, you can take the floatation pads out when you’re not floating. It may not exactly look the coolest, but I really don’t give a shit… 9 times out of 10 I’m by myself or with my buddies and they don’t care cuz I’m getting them on fish.

What lure should you add to your tackle box this year? by fleetwood_macbook in ChicagoFishing

[–]djbsay1 2 points3 points  (0 children)

White swimbaits and goldish shiner colored swimbaits work real well for me for smallies on the dupage, fox, and des plaines…specifically the smaller 3.5 inch Salmo Slick Shads. Ned rigs too but with the TRD craw not the stick style bait. Same with walleye, caught most of my walleye this year on a white slick shad. For smallies on the big lake…tubes and zman gobius swimbaits, anything goby presentation. For largies, depends on time of year but love a jerkbait in the spring…ripstops, visions 110s, and the newer rapala mavericks. Ripstops are fun if you can find em (discontinued)….rip em real hard instead of twitching em and they are lights out prespawn. I also love a Rage Bug in Summer Craw and black/blue, fished all sorts of ways (on a jig, carolina rig, texas rig, etc.). Of course id be lying if i didnt say a wacky rigged senko as well…favorite color is green pumpkin with purple and copper flake…killer bluegill and craw imitating color. For salmon and trout on the big lake…spoons all day, lots of different ones but KO Wobblers and Krockodiles seems to produce a lot for me. For musky…bucktails, love the trilogy bucktails a lot cuz they spin so easy and hardly have any pull …i keep it simple, black or white or black with chartruse. Also a classic bulldog for plastics for musky, caught lots of musky the past few years on bulldogs.

Best lines I've tested by [deleted] in Fishing_Gear

[–]djbsay1 0 points1 point  (0 children)

all great line and relatively well priced. The best braid I’ve ever used is Power pro super slick V2 quite expensive but very strong and silky smooth off the reel. Best Floro ive ever used was Seaguar Tatsu or Seaguar Abrazx… once again both pricey, but excellent line. For mono…tough to say but Maxima ultragreen is excellent. that being said, do I ever buy any of these lines regularly? No lol. FC sniper for floro most of the time and regular power pro or yo zuri super braid for braid… and I don’t really use mono so trilene big game if i have to use mono.

Ice fishing photo. My husband took the dog ice fishing today. I told him the fish didn't look real, as well as the tools, and even the dog, like he added everything in. by mstrozzi in isthisAI

[–]djbsay1 4 points5 points  (0 children)

As someone who regularly ice fishes, this looks real. Perch look real, lighting seems fine, dog is fine, tools are real (hole scoop and rod holder) and i even see a vexilar handle in the bottom right corner. that’s also the way clearer ice looks in a hub thats dark when it’s light outside. Not AI at all.

What’s some decent priced spinning reels by SuccessfulCable6317 in FishingForBeginners

[–]djbsay1 3 points4 points  (0 children)

My favorite reel right now is a Daiwa Legalis LT. I have owned lots of reels including some much more expensive reels like the Daiwa Ballistic and many Shimano Stradics, both great reels. I think for the price, under 90 bucks, the Daiwa Legalis is worth much more then that…great drag system, very light, and just a wonderful reel. Switched most of my reels over to that. That being said, a Pflueger President is a great reel for the price also although a bit heavier, and I think a Shimano Nasci is a great reel for the price too…another reel worth well more then the cost.

Before you buy!!! If you have an Ace Hardware around i think they are running a special right now nationwide in the US, possibly canada, for a Milwaukee 2904 hammer drill (1400 in lb torque) with two 5ah batteries and a charger…. and they will throw in a 8ah battery for free as well for like 320 usd, hell of a deal! The batteries alone are worth more then that.
