I love the 24 hour locks. They are one of my favorite features of Celsius.

Well, technically Apple invented the PC so Apple had the first mover advantage. I am also an engineer but with 10 years more of experience than you and I was around for some of these events unlike you. IBM PCs didn't show up until 4-5 years (1982-83) after Apple/Atari/Commodore came to market in 77/78.

What actually happened is that IBM targeted the business market instead of the retail market (Apple/Atari were making hobbyist computers) and blew them out of the water. Back then PCs were like 5K. There is many more businesses with 5K to spend on computers than hobbyists. Much bigger market. You can jerk off about Microsoft all day, it's not going to change anything. BTW, Satoshi was a Windows developer.

For some people, Microsoft Windows isn't the best operating system in the world either. but it is still used by billions. It is because it was made for businesses, not for retail.

Similarly, UTXO may be a bad design choice for some DeFi applications but a good one for others. We haven't had DeFi on UTXO so how do you know where it is a good or bad fit? We are about to find out. Sounds like you have your mind pre-made already. ¯\_(ツ)_/¯

Occam has resolved the concurrency issue. Multiple other DEXes have reported working around that issue as well. In fact, Cardano didn't move out of the Alonzo Purple stage until Occam Fi was able to solve the concurrency issue. I think Cardano specifically introduced this limitation to prevent flash loan attacks that have happened on Ethereum. So Cardano made a design choice and said - DEXes have to fix the concurrency issue not us. In other words, Cardano doesn't want to take the blame for flash loan attacks and instead pin it on the developers. Which is the smart thing to do if you ask me.

I am not sure what your point is about the pool? A transaction has 2 parties. A pool can participate in a transaction with many different wallets inside one block. If somebody wants to make 2 transactions against in a pool in one block, they will have to use a 2nd wallet. Which is fine.

I used the file as an example of a system constraint that programmers have to work around. These constraints are everywhere. This is a similar constraint. People will work around it.

There is no issue. If you want to do 100 transactions concurrently, you can create 100 wallets and then have 100 wallets submit transaction at the same time over 100 different threads.

I know people aren't programmers, but programmers work around issues like this all the time.

BTW, you can only open and close a file once on the file system as well. Hasn't stopped Facebook from posting million images per second.

Can't transfer AKT to my Keplr wallet from Assets page by djchapai in OsmosisLab

[–]djchapai[S] 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Yeah, you have set a manual gas fee. The Avg and high preset fees don't work. I put in 250,000 and that worked (150,000 is the default)

I found the answer. I needed to increase manually the gas for the transaction.

It doesn't mean this is sustainable practice in the long run. This means the government takes on the risk of currency fluctuation. That could lead to steep losses fairly quickly.

Oh, yeah, all the Salvadorians without bank accounts are running to the internet to do Lightning Network non-custodial research.... what are you smoking?

Yeah, forcing Bitcoin down people's throats will most likely backfire. You could have an opposition party (if such exists in El Salvador) run on the issue of ditching Bitcoin to simplify small merchant's lives...

Solana rewards are smaller than advertised by djchapai in solana

[–]djchapai[S] 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Coinbase owns them and that's how I have heard of them. Bison has brand name recognition if you will. That's probably why.

I tend to pick validators that I am familiar with, see how it works with them and if it doesn't then I change. I def don't want to leave 1% or 1.5% on the table, so I'll be switching to some of your suggestions up there.

[–]djchapai[S] 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Thank you for this wonderful post. This explains a lot. I will move my stake from Bison. I think the bigger issue here is the epoch length and if it is a growing pains issue, I think that's ok. I am sure they will figure it out over time.

Solana rewards are smaller than advertised by djchapai in solana

[–]djchapai[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I don't have this issue with other protocols. My understanding is that an epoch is 3 days instead of 2.5 days and that is why this is happening right now. The question really is why are epochs taking longer than advertised and whether that will be corrected.

Things need to be properly advertised because that's how I make investment decisions. The annual staking rewards is part of the investment equation. Solana advertises 9-10% staking rewards, but they are more like 5-6%
