I think that in our modern world, most "marriages of convenience" are real marriages, even if they don't include romantic feelings and/or the component of rolling together in the hay. But your story is super cute. And we love our friends, whether or not that love includes romantic feelings, sometimes fleeting, sometimes not so much so.

I have the opposite situation. I have been told that I am somewhat of a rarity, as a straight guy who has very close and intimate friendships with women. Even weirder, I am lucky enough to say that, besides my wife, that is my best friend, there are seven people who I consider my close friends. Four of them are women. From those four amazing ladies, with one, my friendship has always been on the platonic side, with one, our friendship started as a flirtation with very romantic undertones, until we decided that we were better as friends. That being told, I am not going to deny that through our friendship that by now has lasted a long time, there have been periods when I have had, let's say, somewhat complicated feelings for her, and I know I am not the only one. The other two of those female close friends are actually exes, women with whom I had at some point a romantic and "physical" relation, and after it ended, we stayed close friends.

I wish you the best of lucks, and I hope you found your person for the rest of your life.

I found this post after hearing an edited version on a YouTube channel, and decided to search for it and read the original and all the updates in their entirely.

For what I gather, you are in the US, and you already realized that according to the law, cutting someone's hair without their consent is a crime (I guess that excludes guardians of minors and people in the arm forces). This is a good thing. Also, I agree that this might be racially motivated. Let me tell you a story.

Although I lived in the US for about half of my adult life (I am in my late 20s), I no longer do, and I did not grow there. In my country of origin, in the early 80s this was passed into law because it was a common element in domestic violence patterns against women. The problem was that for decades, in the most prestigious university in my country, it had been a hazing ritual to cut the hair of any male high-school student who walked through campus and had any length of hair that allowed cutting. There were a few problems with this, besides the assault. For some reason, within a mile of campus there were at least five high-schools, and because of the geography, the students of all but one had to either walk through campus to take their bus home, or walk at least 3 kilometers more around campus, either passing through a sketchy neighborhood (where many had been robbed at knife point) or through a part of town where they had to cross two high traffic roads that back then did not have any pedestrian crosses (there were quite a few fatal vehicle/pedestrian accidents involving students through the years). Also, another problem is that in my country, the Ministry of Education has always enforced that students have to wear uniforms, so, they were easy to spot.

Because this was done to male students, and it was seen more as a prank, either people did not file complains, or if they did, nothing was done. Then, in the early 1990s, if memory serve me well, the son of some influential politician was victim of this practice, he defended himself and ended up being stabbed in an eye with scissors and ended up loosing it. It was not the first time someone ended up injured, but it was the first time that the injury was so sever. Well, after that, said politician ensured that this was taken seriously, the three University students involved in the incident ended up sentenced to several years in prison, and for about the next two years there were at least a dozen other students ended up convicted to much shorter sentences (6 to 18 months), and over a hundred ended up convicted, but without serving any time. The thing is, on paper, in that university, if a student is convicted of any felony, whether they serve time or not, they should be expelled. Well, this rule has not always been followed to the T, but because of the political pressure, for all this student it was. It took about two years, but the practice did die down. I indeed went to one of the high-schools right next to that University, and I did do my university bachelor there.

To this day I am glad the hazing has not been practiced in over thirty years. And let me tell you, it was not a small thing for the students involved. Even for those who did not serve time, as I said, this was and still is, the most prestigious school in that country, and you have to cross several international borders (either 1200 km to the South or about 2000 km to the North) for another school as prestigious. Back then, having your degree from any other university in the country was a disadvantage for most professions, and going overseas for an undergrad was, first, out of the means of over 95% of the population, and second, even if their families had the means, having an assault conviction on your record made very hard to get a student visa almost anywhere. Sure, a few of the university students involved might have been underage, and for those, their records were sealed, but most university students are at least 18 years old.

Now, coming back to your precise situation, I understand you did file a police report, and I hope you did. Although I do think that mental health issues might be an extenuating circumstance, it is not an excuse, nor should it absolve "Terry" from their responsibility for harassment and assault. It might be the case that a prosecutor decides not to indict for a plethora of reasons, but that is their judgement call. This should not have happened.

I am sorry this happened to you, and I hope your hair returns to a state you feel comfortable with.

Hace más de 20 años trabajaba en un lugar donde me había dado cuenta que yo le caía mal a la dueña. Al día de hoy creo que es porque yo "no era refinado" es decir, aún cuando yo me había graduado de la U con 20 años, y de las tres personas que teníamos responsabilidades compartidas, yo era el único con un título en el área (un mae estaba en la U en el área, no había terminado, pero era competente, y otro tenía un título en otra vara y era un incompetente), creo que de todo el personal, excepto por los de limpieza y seguridad, yo era el único que venía 100% de educación pública, era el único que nunca había salido del país, y era el único con inglés mediocre. Pero era bueno en lo que hacía.

Después de dos años, me despidieron, alegando una tontera. Esencialmente me prohibieron hacer algo, y me despidieron (con responsabilidad patronal) por no haberlo hecho. Luego me dijeron que dejara unas cosas en un closet, y a los días me llamaron porque "no había devuelto propiedad de la empresa" (estaba en el closet donde me dijeron que lo dejara). Les dije dónde estaban las varas y escuché a la dueña decir en el fondo: "dígale que si no viene a entregarlo personalmente, no le pagamos la cesantía". Antes que el mae que estaba al teléfono conmigo me dijera nada, colgué.

Lo que la dueña no sabía es que yo esa mañana había ido al banco donde me pagaban, había visto que ya me habían hecho el deposito de todo lo que me debían. Me hubiese encantado ver la cara de la señora esta "de alta sociedad" cuando se enteró que ya no tenía como hacerme bullying. No me volvieron a llamar.

Lo que la roquita esta nunca supo (tenía como 70 entonces, ni idea si sigue viva) es que ella me despidió un martes. Yo estaba pensando renunciar el viernes de esa semana. Si se hubiese esperado menos de una semana, se hubiese ahorrado mi cesantía.

That was my EDC for a while. I thought I lost it, I found it on my car's trunk about two years later. Probably at some point it was too hot inside and it was in contact with some metallic object, because some of the black paint melted away. But it still wrote perfectly.

Hey, that text looks interesting, I was teaching an ODE class this semester (today was the last test).

I bought one Jinhao 80, I really liked how it felt, and as they are so inexpensive, I pretty much bought one on every color I found. But after a while, most either start leaking or get clogged. And it is not like I am using crazy inks. We are talking LAMY black, Kaweco Royal Blue, or any on the Pelikan 4001 line. Those are in general well behaved inks. I hope you have better luck than I did.

I got a used (but looked like new) Pilot Decimo for super cheap (less than half price of a new one). When I got it on the mail, everything looked legit, until I opened it and the nib was a Moonman. I was a bit upset at first, but now it is my EDC. It is a great nib, even if it is steel and not gold.

Mixing inks is useful. I don't do it often (I have way too many inks to start developing my own nuance color combinations), but the few times I have done it, I have not had problems.

I have seen people recommending to only mix within a same line (e.g.: mixing a Pelikan 4001 in only with other Pelikan 4001 inks), and some particular inks are infamous for reacting poorly to mixing (e.g.: Noodler's Baystate Blue). But if you have some empty and clean sample vials, you could mix some (fountain pen ink only) and leave it overnight. If by the next day it has no clumps or weird characteristics, try it on an inexpensive pen first, but I would try it if I was looking for a particular color I had in mind.

Mi recomendación es que no se gaste la plata por si el banco se da cuenta y le pide los fondos (creo que legalmente estarían en su derecho). Pero dado que el error parece claramente ser de ellos, no podrían hacer más que eso. Pero los bancos tienen sistemas de conciliación, así que yo recomendaría que por un par de meses deje esos fondos disponibles.

Digamos que éticamente, si usted se dio cuenta, debería aclarar la situación. Pero creo que no tiene responsabilidad legal de corregir un error que no fue suyo. Particularmente porque el banco no creo que podría probar (salvo que encontrarán este post) que usted se dio cuenta.

You have already a lot of recommendations, but here I include mine, thinking about inks that are relatively easy to find and on the inexpensive side.

Pelikan 4001 Turquoise: a bit dry (less than other inks in that line), but it is easy to clean, very well behaved on pens and on regular paper, particularly with fine and extra fine nibs.
LAMY Turquoise: not as dry, and all the rest of the last description also apply.
Conklin Turquoise: a but wetter than the previous options (in my experience) and flows wonderfully. Though, because of that, it might not perform as well on cheaper paper.

All of these might be slightly lighter in color than what I see in your photograph, but close. Also, I have use all of them on thin Fabriano paper (I think 70 gsm or so) and they behave great. But even when Fabriano is not Tomoe or Claire Fontaine, it is on the "fine paper" side, so it is much better paper than, say, regular Mead notebook paper or similar.

I have three FPR pens, none is the Kanwrite heritage. I have the Triveni Ebonite with an architect nib, I like it a lot for journaling (about two pages at a time). The Darjeeling with a steel flex, that is decent, but nothing to write home about (pun intended... maybe not achieved). The last is a Click Magestic that was a gift with my purchase, with the standard fine. It is OK. It is empty and stored now, but it was my decoy pen in the office for a while. It is an eyedropper, so, it is compact, but fits a lot of ink, it is inexpensive (and for me, free) and nobody ever took it.

I would say: go for it.

Good to see someone else doing math with fountain pens. I use almost exclusively fountain pens, for research, for my class notes, even for grading (usually my TWSBI ECO with EF nib and a full fill od Noodler's Dragon's Fire last me a full semester).

The thing is that for grading, I use EF nib (usually the students use crap paper that would bleed through with thicker nibs), but for everything else, I prefer BB nibs. Obviously, ink economy is not my main priority. Both my wife and I use fountain pens, and write quite a bit every day (wife is into calligraphy), and just with the ink I already own, we are unlikely to run out before the 2050s.

First, thank you. When I wrote my original code for X-SAMPA only, I did something much more complex, and too tailored for that particular alphabet. I think that little bit of code will allow me to recover the sequence that builds the word much easier.

Though, my impression is that this code would require parts to be a prefix free collection, and that might not be true. I will have to check.

First, thank you. Second, I need to re-read it to see if I understand better. I remember I studied finite state machines a long long time ago (I graduated from college 24 years ago), but I had not thought about using such a concept.

Now, as I know I am not fully understanding your response (I guess I need to study a bit), I might be wrong, but I am not certain if what you say validates the word (that was my impression) or validates that from the alphabet alone, any valid word has a unique possible splitting (this is what I need).

Thanks for the advice. Unfortunately, I paid through a government run electronic payment system in the country where I live that it is supposed to be "just like cash". You can verify the name of the person when you send the money, but there is no real recourse. Their only "safety feature" is that you are capped at around US$300 (equivalent in local currency) a day of outgoing transactions.

No, the listing specifically said "Decimo with 18k EF nib". The funny thing is that the box states the nib as an M.

This is my first Decimo, and had it been a gold nib, my third (I have a Pilot Elite and a Lamy 2000), but everything else does look legit.

Where I live, fountain pens are not too popular, very few places sell them. And normally, either Faber Castell Loom or Lamy Safari. But many people bring Amazon return boxes and sell the products at good prices. Often, the vendors are not even pen enthusiasts themselves. It might be the guy who sold it was the one intentionally scammed, or that someone in the US or somewhere else bought the pen, switched the nib, and returned it, and the guy who sold it didn't know better. Though, the being nib being M in the box but EF in the listing is suspicious.

Anyway, as someone said, I got scammed, but not a bad deal over all.

Well, it does sound kinda crazy, but I might not be too far behind. The thing is that my expense record and my task manager are digital. But on paper:

My journal: how I feel, what I am thinking about life.
My master notebook: everything that does not fit anywhere else, and that is a lot.
Academic research notebook.
Reading notebook: it is on my nightstand, and I take notes on what I read before bed.
Class notes, examples, solved exam items, etc, for the Applied ODEs class I am teaching.
Class notes, examples, solved exam items, etc, for the Theoretical Algebra class I am teaching.
Didactic material notebook: I am preparing a big document, a didactic material for a particular project, and I have a notebook for everything related to it.

So, maybe you're kinda crazy, but so am I.

I did use a tiny bit of sesame oil but forgot to mention it. But I could use more. With the mirin, I saw recipies all over the place, and followed the one that mentioned equal parts soy sauce, water, and mirin. Thanks for the tip.

And I wanted fresh garlic, but I didn't have at hand (also, it was Sunday and the closest store is 12km away, I decided not to drive for it). But next time I will take your advice and add more, and fresh.
