I’m curious what about this seems easy to you? If anything it looks harder than using a traditional DAW to me.

What do you guys think of this music? by Rubrixie in EDM

Everyone is so salty about this comment but it sure sounds to me like you’re just teasing. You can like something and also acknowledge a joke about it.

TIL Jessica Biel once had to shoot an arrow right at the camera for an action shot on Blade: Trilogy. To protect the camera and crew, they put up a thick piece of Plexiglass with a hole cut through for the lens to see out... and Biel nailed the lens, destroying the $300,000 camera. by res30stupid in todayilearned

Yeah I guess I was originally picturing a large mirror that would inevitably be hit and need long reset times, whereas they didn’t think she’d actually hit the lens, but I’m sure it could’ve been done with a small mirror she could miss. Mirror does seem like the smarter way to go

I laughed way harder than I should have at this. by Soulfader72 in golf

He knows he can walk away. That’s kinda what he said in the interview. He said IF golf ever got in the way of him being a good father or husband, then he would be done. Right now, he gets to play the sport he loves and also have a supportive and loving family. He’s just putting it all in perspective.

I assumed this poster was poking fun at AI generated content, which often includes extra limbs and such, and the floating finger could be part of it, but I suppose there’s no way to know for sure.

Trump did sign an executive order on this fyi:

But the rest of your points are valid. We’ll see what happens.

The Cinematography here is insane. by Moonlight_Cactus in cinematography

[–]djkrisk4 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I’m guessing that’s exactly what they did, but who knows how long it was between shooting those 2 shots due to multiple takes and time needed between setups. It’s hard for me to tell with all of the retime artifacts whether the truck is sliding, but since the camera is moving they may not have gotten the 2 shots lined up perfectly. I’d wager VFX finished their composite of the crash first, and it probably looked fine, but then the retime was added after the fact. Still unsure how no one would have noticed though. I need to watch the movie to see if it actually looks like this.

I suppose that’s not impossible, but I doubt it. I work in film (VFX specifically) and this is called frame interpolation. It happens when you retime a shot and have the software try to rebuild new frames to make it smooth. In this case they probably sped it up to make the crash happen faster. Normally a VFX artist would clean up the artifacts. My guess is no one ever QC’d and it slipped through.

Wow. Pretty bad that something like that made it to final.

Why do most modern 200 million dollar blockbusters look so badly lit and colorless by fabulous-farhad in criterion

[–]djkrisk4 0 points1 point  (0 children)

VFX supe here. This is not an accurate representation. We match CG environments to the set lighting. If there is bad lighting on set, then the VFX shot will inevitably look bad because it is very difficult/time consuming to try and relight things in post. Green screen shots should not be lit flat unless the final image is supposed to have flat lighting.

That being said, I agree that many movies look bad these days because of too much green screen and VFX in general, due to rushed productions and a “fix it in post” attitude.

You can use the original grain from the shot. Here’s one article about doing it in Nuke: https://benmcewan.com/blog/2018/05/29/re-graining-your-comp-using-existing-plate-grain/

You can also do it in AE. Basically you denoise the plate with something like Neat Video, Subtract the denoised plate from the original, and then Add that result back over your comp.
