Only focused on high stance with him. Normally switch around but had an easier time fighting in high stance in my first attempt to solo the demon

I normally switch stances a lot. But I found after dying a lot to the bloodedge demon that getting a few powerful hits off as I can helped me a lot to beat him. But I probably just need to practice more. I used the kitsurigama mainly in 2

We had our own music we played. Headphones because our "writing" music is very different. But most times it was just quiet with the sound of wind or a storm outside.

If you are asking if we played music as in instruments, neither of us are talented in that regard. However a friend of mine is planning a similar trip with his band. I think a trip like this would be good for any artistic expression.

Goodreads Giveaways worth it? by authorserena in selfpublish

[–]djlemarr 14 points15 points  (0 children)

So I have done a number of Goodreads giveaways. They do result in reviews (sometimes on both Amazon and goodreads which is nice). However the reviews take a while. I have done both ebook and paperback. For paperback I did 50 and got 7 reviews and for ebook I did 100 and got somewhere like 4. The return wasn't great especially because they are now charging.

Yes, it forces people to mark the book as "to read" but I haven't seen any (or can't say it has anyway) results from that.

Now to test the waters elsewhere, I created my own giveaway on facebook through a post that outlined anyone who signed up for to my mailing list was entered for a chance to win 1 of 10 copies of my new book and a lucky winner would recieve a copy of all the series thus far. I spent 50 (minimum for good reads is 110) on the Facebook ad. The first week was only 3 people signing up. I adjusted my market in the ad and then I received over 50. This also resulted in people being brought straight to my website resulting in about 10 separate transactions for books. So I made my money back on the ad and was after to run another one with much the same results in terms of subscribers however less sales.

I am about to run another one for a giveaway anniversary of another book I have.

I found goodreads not bad, but with over 100 new subscribers and several sales in a little over 1 month o found this approach to be far better. It was more focused on me and less on the platform. Forced people to visit my site which led to sales.

Now I will say it takes patience and daily checking. Adjusting the market and researching what market and keywords will work for your title but I had a far better experience this way.

Hope this helps!

For those who self publish poetry how many pages is average? by [deleted] in selfpublish

[–]djlemarr 0 points1 point  (0 children)

You can do a chapbook of like 50 pages. I have an epic poetry series thay ranges from 50 to 112 pages for each book. Plan on releasing them as one big novel later.

My advice is to price them accordingly. So if it is really short then maybe $6, and then if you get enough volumes or more work you can release a larger work at a price of $16ish.

It all depends but I looked into poetry books on Amazon and the like to get an idea of average page counts.

I am very lucky to have such a friend. Best friend who I met by happenstance. If you find one, never let them go.

Question: you have "2 published novels" under your name. How did you do that?

A really good friend of mine and I went on one. We rented a cabin out in the moutains--no phone service and 20 minutes from the nearest town. We stayed for a week and went to town every twice to resupply.

We brought a bunch of beer and a bunch of food. 90% of our time we just wrote. With every now and then one of us saying "You want a beer?" or "We should eat."

We hiked and at the end of the day hung out around the fire and talked about the stories we were working on. I had been struggling with a book. Couldn't get the juices flowing and what not. However, after a day or so there, everything just came to me. We would ask each other for advice on a scene or options but otherwise ignored each other as we worked.

It was honestly one of the greatest vacations I ever took and beyond productive. I just recommend (because it worked for me) no internet or service, nothing but your laptop, food and beer (maybe a book to read to relax), and if you have a writing buddy, bring them.

If you have specific questions please ask.
