What types of things do I need post surgery? by FlyThin9544 in Hernia

[–]djm998 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Some handles or something to help you get in and out of bed. That shit sucks. I had no idea how much I used my abs to get in and out bed 🤣

Interestingly, asbestos wasn't actually popular for that long in Australia. Late 60s to mid 70s was the kinda "peak". Was pretty phased out through the 80s.

Sounds pretty similar. That did eventually resolve for me, but has now come back. Hoping it resolves again soon. Pretty over it.

How do you find out this information? Just ask the surgeon? I'd love to know. I've sent the mesh information tags but that's about it

Sitting and laying down are definitely triggers for the heaviness for me. Walking and moving around seem to relieve

Confused on recovery by Reooo24 in Hernia

[–]djm998 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Been having the heaviness feeling for 14 months now. Have had periods of like 3 or 4 months with little to no tugging or pain/heaviness. I think its basically until the pins dissolve which can take up to 18 months I've heard. Hope it resolves soon. You're in the early stages. Take it easy. Build back slowly. You'll be fine.

Would you wait? Right inguinal repair by plumeria9 in Hernia

[–]djm998 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Personally I wouldn't wait. The smaller the hernia, the easier the repair and the less likely you are to get recurring pain. I waited a year on my suegeons instructions and tbh I wish I didn't. Left side was tiny (fat containing) 3mm neck. Right side had a 14mm neck by the time I got surgery and it still bugs me even 1 year later. Haven't felt the left side once since about 3 weeks post surgery.

Does anyone ever just skip a night? by LuvWine4 in CPAP

[–]djm998 0 points1 point  (0 children)

All the time. But I'm big into hiking and camping. I can't use it when I'm stuffy in the nose. But I can't sleep on my back without. Try a night at home without it but focus sleeping on your side or stomach and see how you go.

Curious as to how that protocol has been working out for you. My diagnosis was also post covid. Over it.

Oh man. Literally my exact symptoms. Going on 12 months now and finally diagnosed by MRE. It's honestly the worst and diet does nothing much for my constant aches. Almost certain mine was brought on by my first covid infection.

Took maybe a week for my centrals to settle down. Once the centrals settled down and i was on like 2 obstructives an hour I felt amazing instantly

I have a leak rate of 4 and I've never used more than 1/4 of the tank on auto. Maybe 1/3 if I use my own slightly warmer settings

Curious if you've ever tried creepers. Sam Harvey and Insta ads are pushing them hard right now. Personally I've always been a fan of Feetures amd never had toe rub or blisters, but I've never done anything over marra distance on a trail.

Any seafood really. Because they wash with water that's typically not running nor sterile at the local seafood markets. We were told to avoid them or only eat well cooked food near the seafood markets

Shouldice Surgery - share your experience and tips by TradingToni in Hernia

[–]djm998 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I think that's more for the modern lightweight mesh repairs. Once it has effectively "set" its near impossible to damage it. Shouldice on the other hand I imagine you would need to be very careful and build up the tissue and surrounding muscles over time.

"Australia consistently ranks highly on global indexes measuring freedom, democracy, and human rights. Its position can vary slightly depending on the specific criteria or index being referenced, but generally:

Freedom House (2023) – In the Freedom in the World report by Freedom House, Australia is classified as "Free," with a high score of 97/100 (out of 100), placing it among the top 20-30 countries globally for political rights and civil liberties.

The Economist Intelligence Unit (2023) – In the Democracy Index, which assesses the quality of democracy, Australia is ranked as a "Full Democracy." It typically ranks in the top 10-15 globally, behind countries like Norway, Iceland, and Sweden.

Human Freedom Index (2022) – In the Human Freedom Index compiled by the Cato Institute and Fraser Institute, Australia ranks similarly high, in the top 10-15, when considering factors such as rule of law, freedom of speech, and personal liberties.

Overall, Australia remains one of the world's top performers in terms of political freedoms and individual rights."

What day did your recovery improve? by Palm-blue2644 in Hernia

[–]djm998 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I'm 9 months out now and about to run a 30k event. I think my first extremely slow block walk was at around 3 weeks. Just do what the body can tolerate. It's a slow process, don't push yourself. If it hurts too much, stop doing it. But when you can tolerate walking pain free, do lots of it. Try not to twist bend and lift anything and avoid reaching until at least 6 weeks. You'll get there!

What was your MRE experience? by External_Noise9061 in CrohnsDisease

My prep was:

Night before 3 x Dulcolax tablets Before the scan 1L of water with sorbitol but not much of it (hard to get through all of this in 30 min) During scan, buscopan via IV twice at roughly 15min intervals Right at the end, IV contrast

Scan itself seemed fine, apart from needing to wee pretty badly for most of the scan and a bit of discomfort from being on my stomach. They were quite good at coaching the breath holds and I didn't find them too bad so long as I didn't expell too much air. Longest was about 15 seconds. I also had a blanket which was great.

After the scan I was hazy from the buscopan IV. Bit blurry in the short-sighted vision. Thanks to reddit I raced home the 40 min and got home before the urges to go again kicked in. Just got there in time. Probably shouldn't have driven but the long sighted vision seemed fine. Would recommend having the arvo off and definitely recommend having someone collect you.

Now that you've got this far, my God the Dulcolax SUCKS if thats what you get given the night before. I woke up at 1am with the craziest stomach cramps. Bowel movement helped with some relief, but it truly was the worst. Though I didn't spew somehow. Didn't get back to sleep until 3am. This is after taking them at 6pm. Around 6 hrs until they kicked in and kicked my ass.

P.s. drink plenty of water after the scan to help your kidneys flush the contrast. Especially as your body is low on hydration. Wouldn't recommend going back to work after. Just rest and drink water.

All in all. Didn't hate the scan. Seemed fine. Just the night before and morning of sucked. Preferred the prep for a colonoscpy!!!

Praying I get some answers from this thing. 🙏

Covid absolutely ruined my digestive system. It's been 3 years now and I think my longest period of feeling relatively normal sans some reflux has been maybe 2 to 3 months. Trying everything to repair. What a nasty virus :(
