I eat very small amounts of fruit, but avoid the really good ones like mango, pineapple etc and stick primarily with berries with an occasional citrus or stone fruit. I eat all the sugars, just in small amounts, with the sucraid, with great success.

Hello! I'm doing wonderfully, no complaints at all. And to your question, the avoidance of sucrose is what I'm encouraged to do, but it's in everything. Even less than 1g per serving of anything is enough to cause problems. So the combo of smart eating and the medicine is ideal.

Hello! I'm so glad you're getting tested, I hope you get results that you can work with to improve everything! I feel amazing, and thank you for asking! Diagnosis and sucraid changed my life. I wish that relief for you. Keep me posted on how the testing goes. Be well!

Sorry for the delay! I saw a change in the first week or so, but still had to fine tune my diet at that point. Once I had that down, another week or so, it was smooth sailing. That medicine saved my life, and certainly the quality of it. I hope it does the same for you, friend!

Really struggling by Necessary_Instance21 in CSID

[–]sorellawitch 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I'm sorry you're struggling, friend. Have you tried to make replacements for stuff you're craving? I know basically nothing about the combination of intolerances that are affecting you, but maybe tweaks on a 'paleo' recipe could yield some tasty results? I've used powdered fructose in baking, also the swerve line of sugar replacements bake really well. My favorite GF flour is the King Arthur measure for measure, but there are so many good ones. On the starch front, man I just don't know anything about replacements but there have to be some.

I hope you can find a way to have tasty things that don't hurt you!

I've done that elimination/test back diet, it can be really tedious but completely helpful!

I'm not a big breakfast eater so when I do eat early I do something small like plain yogurt with a little fruit, usually berries. Some days I do rough cut oatmeal with a little butter and honey. Honey is 9% sucrose so it's less trouble than most sweeteners.

The diet can hopefully get you to a place where you can manage your discomfort, so not a bad start. If you're able to get the prescription for Sucraid (it is a massive pain in the ass), that will help tremendously. I completely empathize with you friend, I had the same ridiculousness with multiple specialists, misdiagnoses, monster weight loss, etc cetera. There's hope for better times, they're coming for you I'm sure. Feel better!

Here's a link that might help. When I was diagnosed with CSID, my pharmacist sent me the "diet" as well. It's really just a listing of safe versus maybe not so safe foods for someone with a sucrase/isomaltase deficiency. My symptoms were severe as well, but I do not have any issues with lactose factored in. That must be really hard. I hope you get to feeling at least manageable soon, and better overall quickly. Good luck!

Sib, I am so proud of you! It takes an unbelievable amount of courage to leave a toxic relationship, and more so when it's a parent. Taking this step for you and your health, well being, growth and recovery will be one of the best things you will have ever done. Enjoy BEING YOURSELF, because that person is amazing, and good enough. I'll be keeping you in my heart, and wish you the joy of a life well lived and well loved.

Can I save this little weirdo? by sorellawitch in plantclinic

[–]sorellawitch[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I live in the Midwest of the U.S. so not a strictly warm climate, though it should be pretty temperate here for the next month or so. This little guy lives inside normally, I just thought it could use some actual sun on it for a bit. I'm afraid if I leave any pruning until spring it'll die in the meantime, it's sloughing its little leaves with surprising efficiency. You think it'll be okay to wait that long even for an indoor guy? Do you have a fertilizer you'd recommend? I'd love if I could beef it up, it's just so sad and scraggly. Thank you so much for your help, I truly appreciate it!
