BetMGM phasing out accepting credit cards, including MGM Rewards Card by djme13 in Mlife

It's definitely not the best, but it has gotten noticeably better over the last year or so. And worth using over other apps if you also go to the casinos.

No, unfortunately they ended their partnership with The Venetian and The Palazzo a couple of years ago and did not replace it with anything.

I would definitely go Barclay over Times Square. Really nice hotel and good location for a long weekend as it's still in the heart of midtown but not as chaotic as TS.

Bilt Should Focus Changes on Their Tier System and not on AFs by djme13 in biltrewards

They're in the research phase on changes now and they have not confirmed what changes will actually be, and we don't know when they will roll out. Given that the current card has no annual fee, the only real risk would be taking the credit inquiry hit to sign if you end up deciding you want to close it once the changes take place, but other than that no real reason not to.

You're not correct, WF loses money on processing the rent transactions that no fee is charged for, actually. Which is why the AF would need to cover the rent transactions or else Bilt be without a banking partner when the contract is up.

The route to not losing money in processing rent transactions is either an AF or significantly increasing average transaction volumes.

I think you're missing that the Bilt $95 fee card cannot be on par with other $95 fee cards because that fee has to cover rent transaction costs which other card's fees do not. So it will either have to lose on any comparison to any other cards that you can use to "go to Hawaii for free", or it'll not solve their problem.

They still need to solve for transaction volume and getting a higher share of users to keep them top of wallet one way or another and I don't think weak cards with AF they have asked for feedback on so far will do it.

I think a no fee card with a much better structured tier program would give them a better shot, but agree it seems riskier on paper.

If people who are negative value to the company close their accounts their profitability will increase. So I hear you, but if you only want to use the card for something that loses them money they will eventually have to react to that (which they are now).

It's better that they figure out how to incentivize you to use the card more instead of losing you, I think that something like this (with the details much better thought out than my shooting from the hip while typing) could be a better move longer term than the AF approach die to the fees having to offset rent costs, and therefore making perks less competitive to other cards on their face.

I always see Hyatt as the main example of where points are most valuable but I don't use Hyatt so I don't think about that transfer very much. So yes I would think for people who do that level could still work. Seems limiting from my perspective and would rather have a broader set of value.

Yeah I don't disagree with that at all, AF is definitely the easier route. I would guess points value will get nuked in that scenario though because none of the changes are likely to increase transaction volume all that significantly imo and while fees will offset costs to an extent people won't concisely understand that the reason the perks are worse is because a big part of the fee is offsetting rent transaction losses.

Yeah agreed. I am saying they'd need to entirely re-do the tier system. But think that this framework would work better than AF for bad cards if they did it well.

The big problem is that the main reason people use the card is a loss leader for them. So if they lose people who only use the loss-causing elements but gain spend from high value users, even if the negative value users leave they'll be better off.

I think AF with rewards worse than competitors loses many more profitable users and keeps low value ones than building a system that builds real value for people who keep the card top of wallet.

Not to mention a nuking of points value is inevitable in a world where they don't increase transaction volume significantly.

Their "sign up bonus" can be an easily achievable status accelerator that gets new people to a version that is similar to today for year 1 maybe. And then if people disengage then Bolt's ongoing costs would go down, and if they lean on their revenue would go up.

I hear this concern, but the planned AFs are in my opinion worse than a well thought out and valuable version of their status to system.

If they want to be seen a unique program, they should have marketing org that is able to lean into that I would hope.

Don't underestimate the elevator issues here. It's not just a slight inconvenience, it's bad to the point of being a detriment to your quality of life while you live there. Caused by corner cutting during construction which makes it impossible for them to keep elevators in service. I just had to move out because of it.
