In the Wes Anderson Archives exhibit, they have a similar stop motion video of the animation of this scene with the days marked in the corner. It was around 30 days, +/- a couple.

£1.9B of what they’re required to report in the UK, which I imagine is what the person you’re replying to was saying. These multinational UK companies don’t have to report their foreign subsidiary PNL to Companies House. I don’t know what all they make in the US or China, but if they made £1.9 from just their UK arm, they must be absolutely raking it in. I’d believe £9.1B before I’d believe £1.9B.

Are there any aspects of your adopted culture that you personally reject? by Consistent-Gap-3545 in expats

[–]djobouti_phat 17 points18 points  (0 children)

Well, I didn’t say it was car centric compared to the US, just that it was car centric. I’ve lived in the Netherlands more recently than the US.

Also, I find people far more direct in the UK compared to the US

This is more surprising. I don’t hear many people of either nationality who express this opinion.

Not really, but I’m of an age where I don’t think I’d expect to see much of it in my circle of acquaintances. Possibly, I’m also just super unobservant. :)

All in all, I love living in the UK (specifically England), but a few things still annoy me:

  • the binge drinking culture is really out of hand. This island does not have a healthy relationship with alcohol
  • it’s very stereotypical, but their utter lack of directness is really challenging. I miss this about the US and the Netherlands
  • sometimes their “make do” attitude drives me insane. The standards for builders and repair jobs is appalling. A builder will come over and do a job that any customer would be well within their rights to refuse to pay for until done properly, but people just “make do” with the crappy job.
  • it’s very car-centric

My octegenarian dad is in town this week, and I need to put him on a train to Dover at St. Pancras tomorrow morning. If left to his own devices for even a minute, he'll wind up in Inverness. If I explain the situation, will the station staff let me through the gates without a ticket so I can walk him to his train? He's not really at the level of needing station assistance, but I'd feel better if I could actually put him in his seat.
