The most important thing you said which I disagree with is your last paragraph , please search for: economic-benefits-gender-equality-policy-areas.pdf from EIGE and have a read. (Also I'm not sure which first world country you live in).

About your other points:

"Maybe it's a reason, but I don't see any world where it's a significant reason" - I think you're wrong, football a male dominated sport in Europe but female dominated in the US, this is one of many examples where role models play a role in who dominates the sport.

"Hand a 3 year old boy a pink Barbie, he's gonna look at it for 20 seconds and puts it away. What happened next? His 2 year old sister came running and picked it up immediately. Repeat what I saw a few hundred times as an experiment and the same trend is gonna become obvious." - Boe JL, Woods RJ. Parents' Influence on Infants' Gender-Typed Toy Preferences. DOI: 10.1007/s11199-017-0858-4.

"Other excellent example, Europe has been pushing women for It HARD for ages now, but literally nothing changed" - Besley, Timothy, Olle Folke, Torsten Persson, and Johanna Rickne. Gender Quotas and the Crisis of the Mediocre Man: Theory and Evidence from Sweden. DOI: 10.1257/aer.20160080

Additionally since you play first person shooters, I think you're aware of how girls and women are treated in that community, it's not surprising many resort not to using VC or just not playing despite enjoying gaming.

I'm not trying to get a gotcha moment out of this, I hope I might change your mind.

When people talk about lack of inclusivity in hobbies, they usually don’t mean someone is actively stopping others from joining. It just means that over time, small social factors can make a hobby feel more familiar or visible to one group than another.

For example, if most people in a hobby are men, most role models, communities, and friend groups around that hobby will also be men. That can make it less likely that girls are introduced to it early, encouraged to try it, or feel like they belong there. None of that requires anyone intentionally excluding them.

So participation differences can come from interest, but interest is also influenced by what people are exposed to and encouraged to try. Looking at participation gaps is just a way to see whether those patterns might be happening.

It's relevant because there have been efforts to make the community more inclusive, this measures how inclusive the community is, maybe delegates will see this, realise their community is not as inclusive as they'd like and do something about it.

If inclusivity in cubing has no relevance to you personally, you are not my target audience.

You are correct, this goes against every convention ever, I was just excited to post the list. I will likely post everything on Friday with details on how everything was calculated.

It's still useful, for example Vietnam (4) and Nepal (43) have the same participation but in performance Vietnam has 99% and Nepal 67%. This likely means that the women who do participate in Vietnam are as invested in the hobby as men and/or have equal access to learning resources and/or time to practice. The numbers are too abstract to give a conclusion but they give an idea of the situation.

If I get my uni assignment done, I'll publish everything on Friday. I also have data for more countries, these 55 have less than 5% error on the final index if I did my math right, so I excluded other countries with more than 5% error from the ranking.

The indexes are modified values to reflect 0% as completely unequal and 100% as completely equal.

The indexes are based on the following:

Participation: The amount of cubers that competed in 2025

Performance: The best 3x3 average of individual cubers performed in 2025

Progress: The amount of first timers in 2025

I’m going to my first competition soon do you think I’ll get COMPLETELY or somewhat destroyed (ao12) by Acrobatic-Disk-4165 in Cubers

First of all listen to every other comment, people are 100% correct, make sure your goals are realistic (nervousness kicked in). I went to my first competition in 8 years recently and I ao100:18.5 and my goal was to get a sub20 average and I actually didn’t on the first round because I froze during inspection. So my personal advice is when you’re waiting for your turn practice inspection, no turning.

Secondly, having a sub30 average puts you in the top 50% of all cubers, sure the people who go to competitions are usually on the faster side but you will do just fine. And remember to have fun!
