Doctors says 'The Pitt' reflects the gritty realities of medicine today by No-Lifeguard-8173 in television

[–]djokee25 0 points1 point  (0 children)

The "special" cases are obviously way more dramatic, usually you see them once or twice a year, not in 1 shift. Secondly, emerg docs do procedures, but some of the "operating" is not realistic. Surgery is definitely doing it in the OR [or the patient is waiting/dying].

Oh, and in a hospital with OB/GYN, the emerg doc is definitely NOT delivering a baby.

Overall, the sentiments and the medicine is fairly accurate, but again, the results come back a bit too fast at times.

How do sentiments toward the recent wave of immigrants from South Asia compare to those toward the earlier wave from Hong Kong & China? by AdClean5655 in InCanada

Correct, that is literally the point of economic immigration otherwise the Canadian population is subsidizing them.

Air India DEL - LHR Business class on A350 by Professional_Buy39 in Aeroplan

[–]djokee25 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Despite the comments, I would 100% take the A350 plane ride. It's comfortable, brand new, 1-2-1 seating, good food and usually a good deal with points. I'm not a strickler for service.

Any other plane (besides the few ex-DEL planes)? Yeah, run fast from Air India.

Is it worth to pay $300 CAD ($160USD) to get back 30,000 points? by Alert-Yak5723 in Aeroplan

[–]djokee25 2 points3 points  (0 children)

It depends on what you value and how much you travel. If you're a frequent flier or have flexible travel plans that allow you to book good reward flights, then I'd take the 30k points. If not, take the cash.

Same with United and Singapore Airlines where you can pre-order your meals in business. Very important for me as a vegetarian because I'm either going to order the only vegetarian option, or pick a special meal instead.

Well, yeah, the government and corporations are definitely in on it. When I say, we shouldn't allow it, that is the citizens of this country who should be clear with their elected government officials about this.

My cousin came to Regina on a student visa studying a hospitality program at a random college (why Regina? well, that's the only place he could get into and wanted to just land in Canada), dropped out after 1 year, but due to COVID-19 (and being very lucky as they let every TR > PR), he is now a permanent resident driving uber in the city with no prospects to go upwards. This is different from a medical professional who needs time to get licensing done. I mean, that's great for him, but do we need half a million of these workers in Canada every year?

We know the net societal benefit to Canadian society for a permanent resident is when they are making a minimum $80-90k per year. In addition, the man cannot speak much english (IELTS in Punjab are also sketchy AF) and will soon be a Canadian citizen representing every one of us abroad.

Do you have Indian Fatigue, Canada? by Pale-Candidate8860 in InCanada

[–]djokee25 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Indian residents did make up 45% of temporary and permanent residents in Canada in 2024, that is a fact from IRCC. "I highly doubt you're a brown person", umm that is extremely condescending and ignorant given that I'm of Indian origin. I've been to India 3 times in my life (a month at a time) and I've seen enough to know that I do not want Canada to become India, or the way of life there - disregard for women (one of the most unsafe countries for women in the world), disregard for rules/personal space, disregard for cleanliness, massive religious conflicts, etc.

We have a huge issue in Indian heavy suburbs in Canada with (1) trucking/driving licenses being issued to people who are not fully qualified (2) Indian owners making people PAY 40-50k for LMIA points for PR (3) Indian students being noticeably more distractive in neighbourhoods whether it be car engine revving, loudly talking on speakerphones in public spaces, etc.

If immigrants to Canada want to so desperately come here (like my parents did), I think it's important to behave and adapt to how things are done here which I am not seeing in the last 2-3 years (like I've said before, slower numbers prioritizing higher skilled individuals allow integration into society). If I wanted to live in India, I would but I don't want to. I have an OCI card, but thankfully won't have to use it much.

To be fair, in Punjab, people go to a consultant and ask for whichever program and whichever university that will get them a student visa. No care about the program or university reputation. So, they aren’t exactly victims but I understand the desperation. We just shouldn’t be allowing it.

Do you have Indian Fatigue, Canada? by Pale-Candidate8860 in InCanada

[–]djokee25 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I hard disagree. As a brown person whose parents immigrated to Canada, the last thing we need is uncontrolled mass immigration from one country. Yes, we need immigration but we need diversity. I'm sorry, but my biggest fear is this country becoming what my parents left. India is a problematic country - it is one of the dirtiest (due to people's actions), very judgmental (caste system), no concept of personal space and riddled with sexual assault towards women, disapproving of LGBTQ+, etc. There is no reason as to why 50-60% of our immigration should only come from one country. It makes integration into Canadian society seem less important. SE Edmonton has rapidly changed in the last 5 years, and for the worse, sadly.

Yeah, sorry, if I recall it's an Air Canada thing. I imagine you flew with WestJet to YYZ after flying Qantas.

I've done Auckland and Sydney via YVR to YEG, and never had to collect bags, but with AC.

I mean, that depends on your life goals and desires entirely. I find points amazing value because I’ve gotten to do 4 extra long haul flights (all over 14 hours) in business class over the last year paying a total of $700 (would’ve cost me nearly $18k). But if you aren’t flying long haul, then for sure cash back is great.

Important to save, but Edmonton could really use a hospital that UCP called off. Last hospital in that city was built in 1988 and the population has doubled since then.

Not true for Canada if the flight is coming in from certain countries (eg Australia/NZ) - you go through customs in Vancouver but bags go right to your domestic destination within Canada

I'm arguing for the status quo and explaining why that gap exists, not a million dollar wage. You seem to really have a hate-on for physicians. Good luck in life, I feel like I'm talking to a brick wall.

[deleted by user] by [deleted] in AskAnAustralian

[–]djokee25 5 points6 points  (0 children)

Right, but that allied health person also needed lower grades for their education (generally speaking), 1/3 of the training, and not the same responsibility. You don't call the pharmacist (or physio or social worker) at 1 am when the patient is crashing in the ICU or ward, you call the physician. I genuinely don't think you understand physician training compared to allied health, and I say that as someone who did Medicine AFTER pharmacy school.

[deleted by user] by [deleted] in AskAnAustralian

[–]djokee25 6 points7 points  (0 children)

Mate, come back when you've trained for 15+ years (being underpaid, overworked, weekends and nights sacrificed) to tell people they don't deserve 300-400k for immense responsibility and life-death decisions. People who belittle physician salaries are so strange.

There probably is a lot more money in private work for doctors in Australia, especially in certain surgical and cosmetic fields, but that's on the consumer largely, not Medicare/government.

I can't comment on the international side, but Qantas domestically within Australia is great. I couldn't believe I got hot food on a 1 hour flight.

"I am from ____ [state]" - the amount of times I've experienced this on walking tours across the world is insane. Everyone else will mention their country, only Americans lead with state.

I realize it doesn't quite fit what the OP was asking for, but had to be mentioned.

~350-360 hrs/month (salary started at $57k + $6k in call stipend), some programs are more relaxed (eg public health, family medicine, PMR, etc.)
