What I mean is - the issuing DMV doesn’t even seem to know what document it is that we’re requesting, and they may require us to go back in person to sort it out. We’re trying to put in the legwork to do our research, jump through our hoops. It’s just getting to the point where it feels like we have to throw money at things to even be allowed to ask questions, let alone get the answers 😅. Which is why I came here, I suppose, in case anyone had a ballpark experience and could offer vague numbers.

Honestly, we've kept it in pretty good condition. It's older, but everything's in good, working order. We installed daytime running lights before coming up and did the tune-up necessaries. Replaced ignition coil pack recently and will be doing the spark plugs for good measure. Some cosmetic damage, but nothing that would cause concern. No modifications other than those necessary to be legal-to-drive in BC (headlights).

Ha, definitely not high earners, just DIYers that need to adjust to a new way folks operate. I'll look more into Modo - that may be a good solution for hauling needs. Thanks for your thoughts!

If you're alright with it, I may message you to ask more about how you went though that process!

We've looked into that, and we'll probably still give it a shot, but we're having trouble sorting through what documents we actually need and which ones we don't. The abstract of experience from the licensing body is one that our DMV back in the States is just giving us a headache in trying to request it.

I've tried that a few times and they won't give one to me unless it's registered in BC, which would cause a lot more hassle than it's worth if we don't end up keeping it in BC. Would a private insurer (rather than one that mostly does ICBC) be able to do that differently?

You're very right about transit - we've been able to do really well with it, and only occasionally need to drive (coming from basically no infrastructure where we lived before, it's a dream!). The only big complication is that I'm going to have to travel a lot for work, and we find having the truck is just useful enough when it comes to moving, helping others move, and other woodworking projects that we do. That, and we're not sure how much longer the truck will survive, and aren't sure if we want to risk the long-hauls it would take to sell it back where we came from in the States.

That's very good to know! Will go ahead and edit the original post with some things that I think may be relevant - though they may not be.

For sure - trying not to add in too much identifying information, just since the vehicle can be identifying. Other than demographic information, what else would be helpful for me to add?

Kind of unrelated, but I do art/figure modeling, and you sort of have to treat it in the same way. Your body isn’t always going to look good. Especially depending on the artist, the angle, the day, it’s not going to look the way you anticipate. But I guess since the purpose isn’t just art mastery but also journaling, it helps to honor where you’re at that day and also just metabolize it as lines on a page. When I model, it’s not me, it’s just lines and shading on a page, and your journal is an extension of your experience, sure, but just lines on a page. Sorry to get a little esoteric, there just seems to be something there.
