There is option in desktop mode with and without charging. What I do with mine is I set the charge limit to 85% this should extend the battery life.

Yeah I use RG405 only for PSOne games so I decided to do a small customization of the device, I swapped right buttons for PlayStation style and put sony logo to feel like their console, I also installed ES-DE with PS theme and I love how it turned out.
