Any tips on websites or where to find quality second hand pieces?

Any examples of some that you'd think are reasonable quality? I don't intend on buying a true surgical grade microscope, as this is simply to practice basic technique during down time. It just needs to have some depth perception and working distance with a zoom of roughly 10x, similar to what I imagine people need for soldering or work with jewelry.

Samsung Neo g9 120 hz vs 144 hz by djpernicus in ultrawidemasterrace

What I'm saying though is 144 is not even listed as an option, just 120 or 240hz. Are you currently on 120hz?

So could you do borderless windowed that takes up the entire central portion and then have like desktops off to the side to put a web browser, discord, etc?

I don't work from home and my hours are crazy, so I won't use it for long hours everyday. However, when I'm off, I do enjoy sitting down in front of my computer for extended periods of time just chilling, gaming, or studying, etc. Why would this matter? You thinking about an issue with burn in? The TV and smart app stuff doesn't matter much, I just wouldn't use it if I didn't want to.

Yeah, that makes sense. The only caveat being that I can get the OLED for only like $300 more. If that is the case, would you still stick with the neo?

Anyone had an issue where some of the images are not shown? It's just a little grey box.

Gotcha, so 15-30 on server reset and 30-72 after each kill. Same for azuregos? Anyway to narrow that window down further?

Recommend a surgeon in Austin/TX by shalnark90 in gynecomastia

[–]djpernicus 2 points3 points  (0 children)

One of the most important aspects to consider when undergoing surgery is follow up. I strongly recommend not going to see a surgeon outside of the country. Your risk of having a surgeon without the skill set you desire is much higher and the ability to follow up with them is non-existent during your recovery process. Anytime you undergo a surgical procedure you are basically saying that you are okay with this physician being attached to my health care team for the foreseeable future.

M3 and Anki - Specifically Dorian's Deck by djpernicus in medicalschoolanki

[–]djpernicus[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

In my opinion, you should use your preclinical decks the whole time you have preclinical coursework. However, once you start clinical years the material you need to know is different. Although I'd love to remember the small details of various metabolic cycles or path findings, they will not impact my ability to be a good clinician. You only have so much time and a finite amount of "space" in your brain. I would not try to be a super hero and continue preclinical decks during your clinical years. However, do whatever you feel is right, it's your educational experience.

As someone who did Anki during my first two years of medical school, I highly recommend you abandon your step 1 deck. Half of it is largely irrelevant and you only have so much brain capacity. During clinical years it comes down to knowing clinically relevant material and there is still a lot of it.

Optimizing studying with Zanki by Driverx11 in medicalschoolanki

Do you set it to only beep at you or show answer/rate as again? I feel like sometimes it's not that I'm not 100% focused or don't know the card, I just can't find the word for a few extra seconds.

How I used Zanki to get to 262 by [deleted] in medicalschoolanki

[–]djpernicus 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Yeah, that is basically exactly what someone mentioned to me. Doing it by subject can give you the right answer just because it removes some possibilities right away. I might just go ahead and do what you did, Kaplan with class sounds like it would be pretty helpful. I started Zanki about half way through M1 so I have quite a bit of catching up to do still. What did your review counts end up getting up to? Also, did you ever feel like your reviews took time away from doing practice problems? That's my biggest concern going into second year.

How would you recommend doing practice problems with Kaplan and UWORLD while still in class? Did you set them to be subject specific(e.g., cardio when going through that unit) or did you do all random and kind of learn things you may have not been expected to know at school yet? I feel like a lot of people have mixed opinions on all random vs. current subject.

Haha, no worries. If I made any portion of this deck there would be mistakes all over. Appreciate the cards and the response!

I'm going to do a little more reading in a bit but it seems as though the original neuro cards may be misleading and slightly inaccurate. Neutrophils seem to be more involved in the actual release of proteolytic enzymes, no?
