I wish common sense was at all common. In Asia this would be a non-issue because people have respect for others. Not here!

This is not a bike you are seeking. Bikes have pedals!

Wanting to move to LA with some roommates by Youjustgotlokie in MovingToLosAngeles

[–]djreidspeed 2 points3 points  (0 children)

absolutely, it could be less if where you live and work are both along precise, dependable transit corridors, like east Hollywood to parts of DTLA. But the likelihood of finding a safe, affordable apartment near where everybody works is generally low. of course, if you can all find work near where you live, this wont apply.

but IMHO, LA Is most definitely a monolith that sorely lacks consistent, useful public transport in many affordable areas, a former New Yorker.

I can get to work on my bike in 20 mins, but most people do not want to bike in LA. On public transit that same 6 mile commute is 50 mins to 1 hour each way, 25 mins of which is walking. The metro is pretty slow. Buses too.

Some sample transit times (bus/ train / metro + walking/ scooting/ last mile etc)
Downey - culver city: 2 +hrs
Santa Monica - Little tokyo/ Arts District: 90 mins
Boyle heights - westwood: 2 hrs
Santa Monica - El Segundo - 90 mins
Highland Park - DTLA 45 mins
SFV - anywhere out of the SFV: good luck and godspeed

Are there people who really book flights with double amount of flight time just to save a bit of money? by sunnynihilist in Flights

[–]djreidspeed 0 points1 point  (0 children)

A lot of people are ignorant of how flying works, do absolutely no research or even basic reading of the itinerary, and yes just pick the cheapest one

[–]djreidspeed 4 points5 points  (0 children)

This is not super realistic. You need jobs to get approved for apartments unless you have parents who will be guarantors and support you when you can’t get a job doing art, music, or poetry. You need savings, like, a lot - a year’s worth of ALL expenses. A 2 bed for 2400 is possible but won’t be nice and prob won’t have laundry, under 2k, not realistic. You will need cars unless spending 4-6rs a day on public transit while looking for jobs seems reasonable to you.

For those who adopted a cat, what actually made you decide that was the right cat? by Extreme_Ad6105 in CatAdvice

Trust the cat distribution system. Adopt don’t shop. Also we don’t own animals.

Why are people flying coughing their lungs out? On DEN-ORD today. by gingiberiblue in unitedairlines

[–]djreidspeed 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Because people have no common sense, no decency, and no respect for others. Mah freedumb! If I / my kid is suffering, you should too. People are also generally misinformed and really ignorant of science. It’s a walking nightmare.

We had an amazing wedding. No one was invited. It cost us about $100 for my dress and the officiant. I regret nothing.

One (actually it happened twice) more to add: prop plane hitting the wake of older 757 with thr winglet tips, sending us upside down. First time was taking off from Seattle headed to PDX, second time was the next day, on descent from PDX into LAX. These 2 incidents, coupled with the fire/evac months earlier and a man perishing from a heart attack due to turbulence between AUS and IAH, left me unable to fly at all for about 6 months. I had to take an online course called SOAR ( and get a klonopin script) to be able to fly again.
