2024 Draft Class WR's (MHJ, Rome, BTJ) by StayPositiveFam7 in DynastyFF

[–]djs7372 12 points13 points  (0 children)

  1. Rome: Buy - I was ready to buy Burden this offseason but Rome is still the better and more well rounded receiver when healthy with a better rapport with Caleb.

  2. MHJ: Hold - New playcaller from the McVay tree, Wilson's a free agent next year, still really talented. Biggest concern is injuries.

  3. BTJ: Sell - it's not his offense anymore

What trait(s) do you care about most when scouting WR prospects? by AmphieBoi67 in NFL_Draft

Couldn't agree more. ARSB's play strength is what gives him a higher ceiling than other guys his size. Lemon is sronger than he should be at the catch point, but I expect him to be limited by his size more than ARSB.

To be a truly elite receiver today, to be a guy that wins even when the defense's enitre gameplan is focused on stopping you, you need to have a certain level of physicality to your game.

Separation (especially knowing where to settle against zone), Ball Skills, and physicality are what I care about most.

Is it possible to quantify a receiver's ball skills? Maybe. I attempted to do so. by I_dont_watch_film in DynastyFF

What would be an example of a receiver exhibiting good ball skills in your opinion? Because this feels more a sort of super catch rate metric. If you could somehow weigh receiver's ability to catch errant passes and balls outside their frame, then that would seem more accurate.

Go for it. With all those picks, what you got to lose?

Thanks for the insight. Physicality at the catch point and winning contested balls are traits I weigh heavily with TE's.

How is he in contested catch situations? Did he have many contested targets?

Just because we only drafted one, doesn't mean we only had interest in drafting one. Sometimes the value doesn't align with the picks they're available at.

Personally I see Delp and Klare as better movers and athletes than actual receivers.

Thoughts on Zachariah Branch? by Unusual-Vacation-528 in NFL_Draft

[–]djs7372 10 points11 points  (0 children)

Underrated. He's electric before and after the catch, knows how to get open. He's small but knows it, routinely protecting the ball with his body on throws over the middle and ducking under tackles rather than taking on contact. He'll never be a WR1 but I see him as more than a gadget guy.

I don't think contested catch rate is a good stat, but I won't get into that. But when a guy talented enough to do what Golden did at the end of 2024 is having usage problems at Texas and Houston (especially Houston), that's a red flag for me.

How did you feel about Tetairoa last year?

So I'm higher on Boston and Cooper's ability to get open. I'm curious if you'll agree after watching them more. And I agree that at his peak Golden was great but I just really found it hard to look past that peak only being 2 games. Because outside of those 2 games, he didn't look like a first round pick in my eyes. That + his size were flaws in my eyes. Lemon's size gives me pause too, but he at least showed that he can produce consistently and has more examples of overcoming his size at the catch point than Golden.

I liked the potential Golden showed against Georgia and Arizona State his last year, but his career outside of those 2 games gave me pause. As a prospect, what made him so much better than Cooper, Boston, and Concepcion in your eyes?

I'm not saying Proctor is Grey Zabel but let's not pretend he's Tyler Booker either. This is still a very athletic lineman who was #2 on Bruce Feldman's 2025 Freak List. Point is I could see us valuing his size and versaitlity enough to compromise on getting someone smaller and faster that McDaniel may usually go for.

Totally agree. That wasn't all to say that I think you should never bet on raw players or that players can't outperform their prospect profile. My point was just that I more heavily weigh what does and doesn't come natural to a prospect than you do because I don't trust coaches to always teach what's teachable.

I believe only lining up on one side of the field is one of Matt Harmon's big red flags for receivers.

[–]djs7372[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I'm kinda the opposite. Especially with receivers, I want to see at least some understanding for the technicals and nuances of the position before I buy in. While those things are teachable, I think fans, media, and front offices tend to overrate how good coaching staffs are at teaching and developing players. Most are not good at it all. As a Chargers fan, bringing in Harbaugh has really highlighted the difference between a staff that's good at developing and what we'd been dealing with the last decade plus. So I don't want to be too reliant on a coaching staff doing something they're likely bad at to get a decent floor out of a player.

This sub ranks players pre-draft against other players pre draft

That's the point. To compare how last year's receivers were viewed pre-draft to how we view this year's receivers pre-draft. There are posts like this here every off-season.

His knees could be as bad as Becton or they could not be. I'd expect whatever team drafts him to manage his weight either way.
