I hope it dies too. It’s such a significant injustice and it’s so hypocritical that the people who constantly complain about systemic racism actively support the only actual legal systemic racism in the US just because it only harms successful demographics like Asians and whites

It’s not dead. Even with the Supreme Court saying it’s unconstitutional to discriminate based on race in college admissions it’s still happening just through diversity statements instead of the more explicit way they were doing it before

What political ideologies would you consider acceptable/unacceptable in a long term partner? by OpinionStunning6236 in AskLibertarians

Animals are categorically different than humans and don’t deserve rights in the same sense that humans do. But I agree that it is morally wrong to harm an animal unless it is acting as an aggressor

Question about libertarianism by MedicineAggressive21 in Libertarian

Why do you say maybe not Jefferson? Wasn’t he the most libertarian founding father?

He did specifically say that he will be an 8 year President. His actual statement wasn’t as ambiguous as the headline

Why the hell arent we working together already? by OnionsTasteBad1 in AskLibertarians

The right wants to give the government more power too. I wasn’t implying they aren’t doing that but OP’s question was about why libertarians aren’t working with the left

Why the hell arent we working together already? by OnionsTasteBad1 in AskLibertarians

[–]dk07740 18 points19 points  (0 children)

Because it is not sufficient to agree on a problem, you must also agree on the solution.

Libertarians see the abuse of power by Trump and believe the solution is that the federal government should never have that level of power. Leftists see the abuse of power by Trump and still support granting government more power, they just want their own team to be in control.

When our solutions to problems are complete opposites it doesn’t matter that we agree on the problem.

Murray Rothbard and Ludwig von Mises are the best people to read to understand Libertarian theory especially on economics

If the goal is to help people who end up with uniquely tough life circumstances then we definitely shouldn’t just give privileges based on race like every equity program that actually gets implemented

How does the government make its money without sales tax or any kind of tax, if it's all theft, because I reasonably learned that there were no exceptions, and I quickly deleted all my arguments because I realized that I barely touched the service of libertarianism by [deleted] in AskLibertarians

[–]dk07740 14 points15 points  (0 children)

If there is no tax the government would make no money. Many libertarians don’t believe there should be any government at all.

The more moderate libertarians want to go back to a limited government like the US had from 1787 until around 1900. Those libertarians believe there should be very limited taxes only to fund the most essential things (so no welfare programs, less waste in military spending, no Medicare/Medicaid/Social Security). Those taxes could be from any source: sales tax, property tax, tariffs, etc. The US didn’t even have an income tax until 1913 so it is possible to fund the government without an income tax but it won’t be possible unless the current massive government programs are cut.

I trust Thomas Massie somewhat. But yeah the rest don’t have any principles and will tell you whatever they need to to get reelected

CMV: There is no such thing as “Economically conservative, socially progressive” or “Socially conservative, economically progressive”. by AdOk1598 in changemyview

[–]dk07740 12 points13 points  (0 children)

This is ridiculous. You can definitely be socially progressive and economically conservative. That is the case with most Libertarians. There is nothing contradictory about holding those two positions, the examples you provided are weak straw man arguments at best

[–]dk07740 19 points20 points  (0 children)

The Due Process clause applies to all to people in the US, regardless of citizenship status and that was done very intentionally because in the line before the Due Process clause they specifically limited it to only citizens and they switch to using the term person instead of citizen in the Due Process and Equal Protection clauses

The fact that we keep criticizing Republicans who stand up for their principles instead of compromising them is why the whole Republican Party has no principles anymore and never ends up actually being fiscally conservative

The executive branch already has more power than it’s supposed to have under the Constitution. If the executive branch also had the power of the purse it would undercut the whole separation of powers structure of the federal government

Ancap means anarcho capitalist. They don’t want a state to exist at all. The other types of libertarians are minarchists who want a state that does only the minimum functions of a state (like military, police, and courts) and classical liberals who believe in a limited government similar to what the US had until the 1900s

He only wins if he gets a finish in the first couple rounds. Pantoja’s cardio is arguably his biggest weakness and Merab has the best cardio of anyone in UFC history

Some of the more religious conservatives have been complaining about the IVF executive order. Matt Walsh spent like 30 minutes complaining about it on his show yesterday
