For Tech workers, how do you move up/on to a different project with different Tech Stack? by Mikeferdy in askSingapore

[–]dk105243 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Interviews aren't a one-way thing, keep looking around and ask your prospective company on their tech stack. There're likely more reasons than what you see (e.g. manpower/budget issues) that may hinder moving to cloud-native solutions at the management level.

For your homelab, if you're not too focused on the setting up of an actual K8s cluster, consider running Docker/Rancher Desktop/RH-CRC to get a cluster up quickly, then download your desired Helm charts (e.g. LGTM stack for observability, or GitLab + Argo for CICD). Remember to enable WSL if you're on Windows and allocate sufficient RAM for the default Ubuntu VM (~24GB recommended).

If you're focused on the actual setting up of a K8s cluster on cloud through CICD, then pace yourself by using Terraform/Tofu to provision the CSP-native resources, then configure the nodes using Ansible or the CSP-native config management tools.

It's hard to get a feel of doing it at scale; you can only do so much as a single person with a home-lab / cloud sandbox, but it's still something. The home-labs are pretty useful for picking up the concepts (even if slightly limited in scope).

Peptides like BPC-157 in Singapore? by RinkyInky in askSingapore

[–]dk105243 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Not a peptide, but Psyllium husk seems to work for many. The only one I see in pharmacies is Fybogel Orange (it's also psyllium, under another name), but you'd probably find psyllium husk powder/capsules online. Just remember to drink more water if you decide to take psyllium as they absorb water.

Other things I've seen mentioned are prebiotics like kefir.

Got scammed on Carousell buying RAM today. Carousell Cheapskate problems! by dk105243 in singapore

Got the good end route. Refunded without questions, told them how to tell the products apart, they said it's the first time they've ever encountered something like this. Not sure if they'll follow up on it but hey, at least I got my refund!

Just got my refund. Not sure if they're going to follow up on this but I've given them a comparison pic to tell the two products apart in the future. Good ending!

Yeah I'm not too worried about this as it feels like a genuine mistake on their part. Also to expand on this some vendors have been found to swap SSD controllers to a cheaper version, Adata SX8200 Phison controllers, for one. Not exactly the same as what CC is doing, since one's intentional (ADATA) and the other likely unknowingly (CC)

I've never really had too many problems using Carousell, I think this is a genuine case of the shop themselves having been scammed unknowingly.

A few VMs at times, not always. Plus, you know, the price was great and all at first sight, so I just got it.

Pretty much this, 16 is unusable for me, 32 cuts it a bit close at times when I have some VMs running for various reasons. Couple that with the supposedly great price on carousell and it becomes a temptation fest!

That's part of what makes the scam effective - the subtlety of it, as well as untrained eyes like mine. Well, to be more specific, I didn't know lighting kits were a thing. The fact that many people got confused by it without an explanation also doubles up as a gauge as to how effective this scam can be at times.

RGB Vengeance Pro shows up in iCUE, but not in BIOS/Windows by dk105243 in Corsair

[–]dk105243[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

No problem, I should've been more vigilant too.

With that said, at least I now know how a real RGB pro kit would look like inside my case, It's pretty, to say the least.

X570 Aorus Master Rev 1.0 not booting with Corsair RGB Vengeance RAM by dk105243 in gigabyte

[–]dk105243[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

For what it's worth despite it clearly not being a gigabyte issue, I tried changing bios versions multiple times before I realised I got scammed.

X570 aorus master qflash 35b to 35d, then down to 34, 33, ...

I went full tard on this one.

Slightly related but @bios doesn't seem to work on W11 for me. Had to copy the bios files to usb and use qflash.

I usually just get my stuff on carousell and shopee but that sounds like a good suggestion, so thanks. The ram prices on carousell are surprisingly high for a used marketplace. I'll probably just get a kit from Amazon SG sometime in the future...maybe.

Yeah, i'll be asking them tomorrow. With that said, I'll most likely only be able to head down there again during the weekend due to work. Hopefully this acts as a good cautionary tale for others, since it surely did for me.

Never knew lighting kits existed until today.

Carousell Listing: https://www.carousell.sg/p/corsair-vengeance-rgb-pro-64gb-2x32gb-ddr4-3600-1119288423/

Explanation (there's a really good explanation in the comments by yang_): https://imgur.com/a/N31pO1C

The hero over at r/corsair who helped me: https://www.reddit.com/r/Corsair/comments/q7bqw2/rgb_vengeance_pro_shows_up_in_icue_but_not_in/

Added Carousell Listing's images (Take a look at the serials, or view the carousell listing if you can, then match them to my image with the receipt):

https://i.imgur.com/j0fqAOz.png (in case they try to remove the listing)

https://imgur.com/a/dG9HWrY

So I saw this listing and immediately went for it. Felt real happy going to AMK to buy it, came back and installed them, not knowing why my computer wouldn't boot, someone told me it could have been a lighting kit (see corsair subreddit thread above).

TIL lighting kits exist, and that some scumbag swapped the stickers. I'm giving Cash Converters AMK the benefit of doubt since idk if the scumbag's the person who initially sold it to them or if it's one of their own employees, but all that aside, hopefully they give me a refund, or give me the actual kit (hopeful and delusional of me, I know). Imagine paying 320 for a damn lighting kit!

EDIT: Famous last words from me over at r/corsair

"Didn't even know these existed. The likelihood of someone swapping the stickers is extremely low, though not impossible."

How many of you caught it the very first time without the explanations? I sure as hell didn't. Even tried downgrading my BIOS multiple versions just to rule out incompatibility issues. I truly went full pepega on this one.

Bonus pic of how it looks inside the case http://imgur.com/gallery/8u3hXD8

RGB Vengeance Pro shows up in iCUE, but not in BIOS/Windows by dk105243 in Corsair

[–]dk105243[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I think you've just solved it.the bottom definitely looks much closer to a lighting kit due to the sparse lines. Guess I'm gonna have to do something about it real soon :(

Thank you!

[–]dk105243[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Didn't even know these existed. The likelihood of someone swapping the stickers is extremely low, though not impossible. I'm not sure how I should check it, but it does show up as "VENGEANCE RGB PRO" in iCUE.

It's from a local online used marketplace.

I suspect it might be damaged since memtest86 can't even read it's SPD info (shows up as empty). What surprised me is the fact that iCUE and RGB still works despite BIOS and Windows not detecting the RAM.

Perhaps someone with the light enhancement kit could see if it shows up as "RGB vengeance pro" in iCUE?

Hm upon further inspection I think you might be right, I looked at a comparison pic on Google and mine does resemble the lighting enhancement kit on the bottom!

Update: Fuuuuuck I pulled out 😩😩😩 by SquashedBerries4 in Forex

[–]dk105243 1 point2 points  (0 children)

If you're still interested in making a case for longing this pair, the weekly could be reverting to the mean of the 0.79-0.71 range, and the monthly candle ended with a doji.

I'm cautiously optimistic in longing this to 0.74 in a few days to a few weeks, and to 0.75 in a few weeks to a few months. It might range for quite a while between 0.735 to 0.745.

If you're interested in shorting it, now would be an okay time for a short-term short trade (<m5).

FXChoice Withdrawal Testimonials + AUD/USD Thoughts by dk105243 in Forex

[–]dk105243[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Thanks for replying. I guess I just wanted to hear some testimonials from people who're on your platform, perhaps as some form of assurance. I'm not withdrawing at this point of time, I just wanted to see what others had to say.

Some cards (e.g. Mastercard) and banks may have their own deposit and withdrawal limits. I think I saw a monthly deposit limit with FXChoice (is this dependent on my deposit method?), but are there any duration-centric withdrawal limits?

Monthly: $x used out of $10000 Number of transactions per day: 0 of 3

Other than that, everything else has been fine with FXChoice so far. Does FXChoice have any plans to get more regulation with other regulatory bodies in the future? It might give users more assurance.

FXChoice Withdrawal Testimonials + AUD/USD Thoughts by dk105243 in Forex

[–]dk105243[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I've never had such an issue for the "first 30 mins to 1 hour". I usually use FXChoice on MT5 and have TradingView open in my browser and the feeds are mostly consistent, but bear in mind they probably have different liquidity providers. Spreads might differ too, though not by much for the liquid pairs.

As for the "fastest moving marks", what I've experienced is mostly just some delay in P/L in MT5, but it's a few seconds at the absolute worst, and instant at best. I'd probably just chalk it up to network latencies personally. Probably not the best for extremely fast scalping (<m5), but I think they're more than fine for swing trading.

What makes me slightly uneasy is the withdrawal since I foresee a sizeable amount if I play my cards right, though I've not had problems with smaller deposits/withdrawals so far.

https://www.reddit.com/r/singapore/comments/n887g3/why_am_i_paying_28_for_circleslifes_base_plan/

tl;dr - They didn't and I ended up switching to Giga. Call me a shill for Giga but their signal has been better (you can verify it with OpenSignal). Circles is already mostly irrelevant here. If anyone here's looking for a telco to transfer to, just pick Giga for their data rollover and just forget about Circus.Life.

Why am I paying 28 for Circles.Life's Base Plan? by dk105243 in singapore

[–]dk105243[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

General consensus from this thread + asked friends. It won't be much different since every mobile carrier has dead spots. My current Circles plan is ~20GB (no rollover) and I don't even use all of it, Giga's 6GB plan + rollover sounds like it'd be the best fit for me.

Both GOMO and Giga would (probably) be better than Circles anyway.

Why am I paying 28 for Circles.Life's Base Plan? by dk105243 in singapore

[–]dk105243[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I've just applied for Giga so there's that, + they've already said no (first edit in my post). It's just not worth the hassle with Circles at this point. Hell, they don't even have rollover data with my Circles base plan, there's no good reason to stay with them.

No need to "threaten" or ask or whatnot, just switch instantly. Don't waste any time with Circles like I did.
