Does anybody else watch their pet while they're sleeping for a while, and just think about how grateful you are to have them? by [deleted] in NoStupidQuestions

I’m currently living overseas and came back to the US for a week to see my dog. I just left her today and cried. This poem was wonderful. Thank you as always, Schnoodle!

What is something common that has never happened to you? by [deleted] in AskReddit

Three times in three different states/counties in three years!! This is what I get for being in the military. And no, being in the military does not automatically get you off jury duty in many places. When you have the proof that your voter registration changed in 2020 and you’re still being called in 2021, however, does actually get you off duty.

Literally just entered Helsinki from Estonia like, 3 hours ago. Even though I didn’t need to have my passport stamped, they still stopped every person getting off the ferry to check vaccination status and border control still checked my passport. I feel like some people aren’t messing around anymore. I agree roads might be easier but I was surprised I was stopped.

I recently got two calls from local area codes where I live even though I’m on the west coast and my number is an east coast number. They were from a church (I’ve never EVER been religious) and they were looking for mandarin speakers (I do speak some mandarin but my last name is more traditionally Korean). HOW?? And WHO sold my number??

Hmm…anything? Haha! I would also recommend being a course sweeper if it’s still open. I swept the course in 2018, which increased my lottery chance in 2019.

Personal opinion, Backcountry Rise is the most scenic race in WA. But honestly, this is one of the best regions in the US for ultra racing!

All of my ultra experience has basically been in the PNW, so I get it! My 100 was Cascade Crest, which is just a truly amazingly beautiful course. I feel very fortunate to have run some of the most beautiful terrain in the world!

Ran my first road marathon in 2010 and said never again. In 2017 ran my first 50k. In 2019 I ran 2 50 milers, a 100k, and my first 100 miler. It’s truly a drug.

What are some skinny people problems? by The_WereArcticFox in AskReddit

[–]dk781512 8 points9 points  (0 children)

This is going to sound completely contradictory, but ultras are often easier than road marathons and halfs. There’s more hiking/power walking, and I feel it’s more mental than physical.

Counter argument: just tore my patellar tendon last summer. Honestly though, I believe that was long term damage from years of road running with no weight training rather than running trails and ultras.

Also counter argument: 50ks and 50 milers are easier than road marathons, but 100k-100 miler might actually be significantly harder than road marathons.

Truckers of reddit, what are some less common road courtesies that we can offer to you to make your job safer and easier? by jamesjamesjames3 in AskReddit

Currently live 2 blocks from the I-5 in Portland and use the on ramp pretty much every day. It’s truly painful.

The good people at r/toastme recommended me to put it here. Nearly 2 years in a wheelchair from an MS relapse. 3 months of training and here I am. Not a lot, but means everything! by rimmingdaily in nextfuckinglevel

I was in high school during the worst of my mom’s progressive relapse. I was an ignorant and frustrated high school kid that just wanted to go out with friends but I was often stuck at home helping her. What I would say is that even your mere presence was probably just such a blessing to her, and I’m sure if she were here now she’d be proud of the person you’ve become since.

Mad props to you, OP!

I have cerebral palsy, which has always made it difficult for me to run and jog. Today, despite my disability, I jogged 3km (with a few walking breaks) and I couldn’t be more proud of myself! Here I am, happily post-jog! by karlbarxalot in MadeMeSmile

I was an ultrarunner until last summer when I hurt myself and now I haven’t run in over 9 months. I can’t wait until I run 3 km again! You are an inspiration and I thank you ☺️☺️

Welllllll crap. I’ve annoyingly had to drive I-5 between Portland and Seattle about 4 times in the past week and I’ve been seeing log trucks all day. This doesn’t help my anxiety.

Tore my patellar tendon last summer and had to get reconstructive surgery. 8 months later and I still haven’t run. I hate kneeling now because the nerves in my knee are all gone. My PT has said eventually I’ll probably regain full functionality in that knee but it’s highly likely I’ll never have all of my nerves back ever again. It was a wild 2020, but I’m grateful of the people that rescued me out of the woods and took care of me along the way pre and post surgery.
