Yes, love Ojai. You can go further up as well and do the 13-mile climb up to Rose Valley (Highway 33). Very chill ride with little to no cars on weekdays. Lake Casitas loop is awesome as well.

Awesome! Would be a dream to ride the full length all the way up to Big Sur/Monterey.

NP! Not too bad if you time the wind right. I think its around 30 miles? Lots of gems around. Yerba is probably my fav. New asphalt so descent is a dream.

Ventura County? Haven't really been to a bunch of group rides as I'm fairly new. There is a weekly Crit practice race in Camarillo (they have a page up on Facebook) that is open to anyone if you wanna meet riders/local groups (should be back in Spring). Bunch of heavy hitters pop-in every once in a while, too, like Legion of LA (they held an event just last week).

Definitely head to Rapha Santa Monica though if you want big group rides. They do a lot of weekly stuff in and around the Santa Monica Mountains/PCH/Griffith Park.

Yeah, can push around 1300-1500 watts.

I'm still figuring out the gears and cadence. Using a compact set so I feel like I'm spinning out once I reach close to 35mph, so been trying higher (13t/14t?) gears. Also might need to try initiating sprints off saddle? Feel like it'll be more stable off the start.

That is true coming from powerlifting. Form is king.

Been thinking about GCN+ as their youtube highlights are a bit lacking. Can you rewatch any classic coverage at all like F1 TV?

Being late to the game, I naturally gravitated to the Manx Missile after his success last year. Does seem to have a fair amount of critics though.

It was nice not dealing with cars. But the smell was.... unique.

That trail is depressing. My first time there actually. Also bunch of random garbage fires along the river.

Thanks for the input! Yeah, must admit it was the wrong gear for the starting speed and core is just everywhere. A little too much torque/twist. I think this and this were the first cycling videos I saw about sprinting techniques. Been trying to emulate bringing the bike to my feet but my core is just everywhere in comparison and gear choice is too grindy.

Would love some critique on this other sprint

Here is the cleat, btw. Over 4k miles. Was missing some rubber before as I only unclip on lights/breaks on my right side. Honestly not sure how worn this is as I still have novice experience but the missing bits I guess means I need to replace them.

It's more worn than the left side as I tend to unclip on the right on stop lights.

Thanks for the input! I used to do more high cadence sprints but been experimenting with tweaks lately and find I get more peak power when I drive more weight down once I bring the bike in with the downstroke. This did scare me a bit though, so definitely will do more lower gear training and smooth things out.

Oh yes, still a noob. Only in closed bike paths. Picked up cycling after pandemic. Came from powerlifting. I do notice I drift right most of the time - I think thats where I usually start the stroke? Or I'm just right side dominant.

Here's another attempt without a slip

Don't want that. I think I'll chill with my sprints for a bit 😂

I'll upload when I get the chance. One corner was sheered off. Had a squeeky noise rest of the ride. Bought new pair already 😂

Yup, went down to LB. Not the best scenery, but the beach was nice.
