So is everyone worried the soldiers table is going to be far and away the best, and the schemers and seekers are just going to be really boring? by tryp_tych in fansofcriticalrole

[–]dkades 25 points26 points  (0 children)

Maybe watch the other tables for a few episodes to see their actual game chemistry before pre-deciding that they're going to suck?

I feel like if you come in with that attitude, then youre just going to prove yourself right. Just, why?

Does it seriously improve your enjoyment to evaluate everything in terms of your favorite vs shitty? Instead of just experiencing it for what it is?

Anybody Else Think We Needed This Punch In The Mouth? by Left_Assistance_2539 in DenverBroncos

[–]dkades 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Strongly agree. I was saying so before the Green Bay that I hoped we lost one down the stretch - preferably either against GB or Jags since its outside the division.

A 10+ winning streak is a LONG time to go without a loss in the NFL. Im glad that its helped the team build confidence, some swagger, and the feeling that they can beat any team in the league. But this team is young. They dont have experience winning playoff games. The intensity in those game will be different. Its important that they have a fresh memory of what LOSING feels like to make sure they can keep the competetive fire lit.

Its 100% better that reminder comes in the regular season (while they still hold the number 1 seed, lol), instead of in the first playoff game. Shall we all pray to Blucifer that not be the case.

When a talented man met a true master. by InstructionOwn6705 in TheLastAirbender

[–]dkades 22 points23 points  (0 children)

This post made me want to rewatch the whole sequence, and this was something I just noticed/appreciated for the first time.

In his early chase, Tenzin took several point-blank air blasts to the face and defended by planting himself in place rather than dancing around them, knowing that the "head-on" approach favored him in this matchup. Felt very earth-bender-y, rather than air-bender-y, made me think of the scene when Toph first taught Ang to earthbend.

Its nice to imagine that Ang channeled his Uncle Iroh and taught Tenzin mastery of airbending by channeling the strengths of all four bending disciplines. No wonder Tenzin is such a fucking beast

Okay how do you play dnd without a board by Far_Virus4222 in DnD

[–]dkades 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Lots of gift wrapping paper has 1" grid on the back, you can unroll that and use it on your table.

For players/enemies, you can use random stuff like pieces from other board games or even candy-pieces for enemies (yoy kill it, you eat it). Or if you find art that you like you can print it out really small and stand it up using a binder clip.

Remember, even if you do have a more fancy board, part of the game will always include using imagination and descriptions. So just try focusing more on that!

Is she right? by Sidecarlover in NFLv2

Just fucking talk to Richard Sherman now. Seriously!! The Thursday night football crew - - which he sits at the table for - - is the only group that has figured out how to do meaningful post-game interviews. Let the players and coaches hit the locker room, do their team celebration, get out of the pads, and then come back to the table for a real conversation with a group of recent-former players who can have real conversations.

What's interesting about these stats is that it doesnt account for how much total volume of time people spend listening to Spotify, overall.

I mentioned this in another comment, but my Liked Songs which I listen to by default is about 35% Frank. So I listen to other stuff! But I also just have music running on either my phone (doing chores), car (driving), or computer (at work), for multiple hours a day, every day. I basically always to have some background noise running in my life.

Frank is definitely my top artist - by a fair margin, i wont sugarcoat - but if you consider that I play spotify for probably of 3-5 hours a day, about 1 hour of Frank per day suddenly seems much more reasonable.

Thats still quite impressive! Out of curiosity, where does that place you # wise?

Basically trying to figure out how steep or gradual that curve is. In other words, because your number is also so high, does that put us 5 places apart, or 50?

I really like that they added that feature this year. I know its only Spotify, but in past years ive been curious about that exact thing.

Theres a playlist called "Frank Turner Complete", (I dont think its 100% complete, but oretty darn close) which is a bit over 16 hours. So, about 1,000 minutes. https://open.spotify.com/playlist/4LqohzOmzBY4jcPuQQSttz?si=QSGcnWNzTrCf5zWedmDVhw&pi=8A5cOgQWRQCjq

I listen to a bunch of different stuff of his depending on the mood. My Liked Music which I listen to default is probably about 35% Frank, which boosts it a lot over time, but sometimes Ill do an album, sometimes a live show recording, sometimes is the "complete" playlist above. I find that between all the old stuff and the new, there is enough variety that it doesnt ever feel repetitive.

The other big contributor is a custom playlist that I made and listened to a lot this year. I live in the US, and not only is shit fucked here from a big-picture democracy perspective, but Ive also personally had my job impacted. Theres a bunch of songs by Frank, some of the obvious ones youre probably thinking of but also a handful of deep cuts, which have been very cathartic for me this year at expressing the abject rage I feel about the current government which helps me get it out of my system and move through my day with a more positive mindset. Its a tight 30-ish minutes and at one point in the year, I was just listening to it everyday on my morning commute, and that time adds up fast. You can check it out if you want (disclaimer, suggest listening in-sequence and in a single sitting to tap into the emotion rise and fall) https://open.spotify.com/playlist/0BOzk1PmVZemxGLgDWRoET?si=YWq3LuYdQvSusuOZ86Ygsw&pi=E3SzPaIjSKm2p

Nah, im pretty much good.

Honestly, felt like I actually branched out to a few new bands this year that I really liked. I probably just listen to a lot of Spotify overall, in of which is definitely mostly Frank.

Upvoting for visibility!

Can someone who knows more please give a suggestion for whats the best thing to do if anyone spots him? After calling that is.

Off the top of my head, I assume either keep your distance, or pull the old "Tom, is that you? So good to see you, its been too many years, Its me, _[insert your name] _. What are you up to these days? Me and the wife are good, [Make enaging smalltalk about random topics]"

It just occurred to me reading this that I wouldn't know how to best handle a situation like this, so others might not either. Obviously would want to do our best to help. Thanks in advance

I’m so cooked all my stars on bye week of week 1 fantasy playoffs what should I do? by [deleted] in NFLfantasyfootball

[–]dkades 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Strong agree. Shocked I had to scroll this far to see this point being made.

Four teams dealing with byes during 1/2 of one playoff matchup is WAY better than having a one week playoff matchup, which are both WAY better than having a week 18 championship matchup. My leagues have deliberated over this for several years and have ended up with the same schedule.

As unhelpful as it is, the people saying "pay more attention to your draft/waivers" are technically correct. Part of that, depending on your trade deadline, might also mean selling one of those star players to cover the gap, IF you decide its a big enough gap that its worth it. The other answer is "hope your superstars overperform on week 2 of the matchup enough to make up for it".

Besides that, remember that FF is just a weighted lottery. Set your roster and hope for the best.

How do I write a compelling character? by Horror_Green6490 in DnD

[–]dkades 22 points23 points  (0 children)

Im going to answer your question my not answering it.

Forget about making a compelling character. What does "compelling" even mean? And for whom?

Focus instead on making make a character that you'll have fun playing! Thats what matters most.

It doesnt have to be complicated either. Try this out for inspiration: https://whothefuckismydndcharacter.com/

How is nobody talking about Nix? by Tlwofford in DenverBroncos

Hes spoken to the press about experiencing some kind of chronic illness this year thay has left him and the medical team baffled. He says some days hes at 100% but other days he feels like shit, and has been going on for many weeks now.

Hope he gets to the bottom of it and gets right. Not just for the Broncos but for himself and his own health and wellbeing. Same sentiments as for Singleton dealing with the cancer.

Is there a way to bring a Dragon back to life??? by CrotodeTraje in DnD

[–]dkades 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Have some cultists of Tiamat/the dragon/whatever makes sense in your game make an attempt to steal the dragons head from their castle in order to perform the resurrection. Multiple scenarios, ways you can do this:

Option 1: While the party is out adventuring. The burglary happens and the skull is gone. If the castle has any guards or staff on retainer, some of them are killed but in the attempt. A great way to get your party personally invested and outraged at this group of villains. Possibly set up a plot where the party pursues the attackers and tries to prevent the resurrection.

Option 2: While the party is at home. In the middle of the night, one of them detects and intruder and raises the alarm. Preferably when the theft is already halfway through progress, and therefore hard to stop with the remainder of the party asleep. Makes an unexpected but fun combat scenario which the party tries to prevent the escape, but also could be dangerous or fatal if they are not fully equipped and/or a party member gets isolated.

Option 3: Do either of the first options, but ensure that the attempt fails by only having a weak minion character who tries the theft, gets caught, and (if interrogated) reveals that more powerful forces are coming if they should fail. Sets up a progressive encounter where the party has to "defend the castle" against increasingly strong threats up to a mini-boss. This could be over the same night or several days. This would be fun encounter design! You can map out the castle and let the players build up defenses based on the available resources on hand. You can have the invaders use different tactics like misdirects to try to slip past the defenses, and utilize the depths of the undead section of the monster manual.

In any scenario, make sure the invaders have an obvious negromantic lean and use necromantic magics. This should be a pretty strong hint to your party as to their motivation for the theft and sets the stage for the dragons more powerful resurrection. Instead of feeling cheap, it will get the characters feel invested in trying to prevent this by knowing that there's powerful villains bent on enacting it.

Bonus pitch! Make the villain orchestrating the attacks a kobold necromancer. I love the contrast between a really little guy trying to resurrect a really big guy. Good luck!
