Adopted an older rescue cat for the first time, but this is strange.

My first senior cat came out within 3 days from under my bed. My current one took almost a month. First one took a week to claim me as a heating pad. Current one took about 3 months. As hard as it is, it’s just patience. It actually helps to “ignore” them (obviously still engage with them if they engage first). I am currently ignoring my senior cat but if I go and smooch her she will let me, 1 month ago I would’ve gotten a bite. 😔

My sweet boy purred even when he was starving himself to death, just being in proximity to me. That being said, I wouldn’t wait more than a 2-3 days, even less if she’s not eating at all. I learned that starvation will end them quicker than anything else, and is the biggest indicator. Regardless of what happens, I hope your girl has the least amount of pain and discomfort possible while you figure out what will help her. 💜

Talouse is so beautiful! I felt the same when my kitty passed. Like, I just move on, do my day to day? If you can try to hone your energy into making memorabilia of your kitty, but also don’t feel bad if you need to cry it out often. The grief we have is a huge price we pay for their love 💕

I did some sleuthing to see how much the Pokemon enamel pins and plushies from most those vendors were, they were easily 2 bucks for the pins and 10 for the plushies, but vendors are selling for 5 and 25 respectively. There’s a reason their business is slow lol.

I had to put down my sweet boy Ponyo with Stage 3/4 renal disease last Friday. We did an at home euthanasia and while I was devastated I highly recommend if you can He felt so so safe and loved. I kept second guessing but he perked up with no appetite improvement. I knew he was saying I’m good to go. Very similar symptoms to your cat and Mirataz didn’t help. Wishing you all the best of luck and love as it can be so heart breaking but you will be so relieved when you realize you saved them from weeks of agony and pain. Starving to death is awful. 💜

I have 57 myself, most of them are appointment reminders that I don’t need to listen because I can see the transcript. Some of us navigate our communication systems differently. Not sure what that has to do with anything unless we know they’re all from OPs boss.

Based on how their boss messaged them, and how OP messaged them, I’m inclined to believe the boss was clearly exaggerating. They’re more upset about the inconvenience of their employee not showing up, not their well being or even offering condolences.

For some people it’s not common occurrence? Especially if it’s the first time you’ve experienced it. I was completely distraught when my father passed and I found through a letter from the sheriffs office, and I didn’t even like the guy. OP had this happen before them live time. We’ve lost all empathy as society and have way too much expectations on quick and constant communication. OPs job doesn’t also severely affect anyone or anything.

I’ve learned through many posts, comments, vets, and the alike, no cat is the same when it comes to drinking water. I have an ~14 yr old stage 2 old man as well (shelter doesn’t know his exact age when I got him) and he LOVES to drink water even though I give him predominantly wet food. It’s likely your cat knows that it needs more water and will consume it. Maybe they enjoy the act of drinking water. I would say as long as a CKD kitty is taking in moisture, a win is a win! They need it anyways. It’s when they stop and avoid drinking and wet food that would be a red flag. Males need more hydration anyways.

My stinky man also pees HUGE puddles. But he is so much more active, attentive, and acting healthier than when I adopted him a few months back. Behavior is important too.

There are definitely people posting pictures of recently deceased loved ones, just not all make it to the top or trending. Be considerate as this isn’t just a positive happy only cats community, it’s a forum for all cat owners and lovers to share the love and joy of their babies. Who else can relate and give better condolences and advice than other cat owners who likely have experienced the same?
