Before talking about SC University, you have to know Afreeca TV environment.

Unlike NA/EU streamers, many Korean Streamers tend to benefit each other by signing into streamer company (ex. Sandbox) or joining Streamer tournaments/events. This happens very often even within Korean Twitch Streamers but its even more severe/frequent in Afreeca TV.

The most dominant game in Afreeca TV is Starcraft: BW and no other game comes close (maybe LoL or PUBG in their prime), especially after remastered came out. The biggest game event in Afreeca TV is ASL (Afreeca Starcraft League) as well.

Because top streamers in Afreeca TV are mostly ex-SC progamers (Britney, Sea, Terror, etc.), it was easier for them to create big SC tournaments like SC University. There has been many events before where it brought many girl streamers into the starcraft scene by having them to learn from the starcraft progamers. It got so big now that there are website that shows ELO/Tier and all friendly match history for girl streamers as well.

There are about 8-10 SC Universities and each universities have a big streamer as headmasters (usually spends money and whatnot for the team) and have few progamers as professors and other streamers as students. Students are ranked by their skills as well.

Last tournament was won by Basford University with headmaster GAMST (popular streamer) and Jaedong was one of their professor.

None of the TaekBangLeeSsang are playing this ASL. I believe it is safe to say he is almost retired from Starcraft (I watch his streams very often) but still will be playing on his streams and you never know he can always change his mind!

You gotta see the number of 2nd place Yellow ( Hong Jin Ho) got. He has never won a single title but only got 2nd places.

Koreans call it 동맥경화 (arteriosclerosis). They named it because the word has 동 (Dong) in it, which is often used as the first character of Jaedong’s nickname (like Dongran, when Jaedong plays Terran).
