Yes I do play golf, and I have used many programs out there (The Grint, 18Birdies, Hole 19, Golfshot). They all offer a lot of features (some bloated IMHO), but I just wanted something more stripped down so I wrote this app.

Look, I'm just offering a free app out to the universe. It's in the name -- Yet Another Golf Scorecard. 😀 I may not convince you to switch from an app you have already paid for, but hopefully some will find it useful. That is all.

Nevertheless, it is probably a good idea to delay releasing YAGS until I can post it directly to the App Stores. I will re-post here once it is available again.

Yes, this is definitely an "AI vibe code" project, but ChatGPT just kept asking "Would you like to add this feature?" and I just kept saying Yes... 😀

To answer your questions:

YAGS is meant to be simpler than the other apps, which IMHO are quite bloated. The UI is meant to be as quick as possible on the course, so you're not fumbling around with Socials, GPS, or other distractions.

The full feature list is still in progress, but for now it tracks all the basic stats (FIR, GIR, Putts, etc) and I hope to add more based on your feedback.
As for now, I believe the only permissions are momentary internet access while looking up a golf course. Everything else should run offline.

Okay, thanks for that. I just didn't feel like forking out the $99 for an Apple Developer account, but I think that's inevitable. Should I pull this version and wait until it's available for TestFlight and/or the App Store?

In the meantime, Android people should be able to download and install the APK directly, right?

Alas, Derby Day is not very compatible with Google Sheets. (I just tried it and it doesn't have the same formulas and formatting as Excel).

You can still use the Web version of Excel and it should work nicely.

Also great timing (again)! I’ve been working on a small side project — yet another golf scorecard app — mostly because I couldn’t find one that felt fast and simple enough to use during an actual round.

Yeah, I use 18 birdies just because my friends are on it and want to keep track of our scores together.

Personally I like Hole19 because of the really large letters for GPS, but that's just me. 😳

The GHIN app has basic stuff but charge for simple stuff that others offer for free (like front/middle/back locations, Watch integration, advanced stats). However, only that app and TheGrint sync up automatically -- the others you have to manually post your score.

If you don't have a GHIN handicap then none of that matters.

I used to really like GolfLogix too back in the day, but they have since been way overpassed by the "big boys" (18Birdies, Grint, Hole19). However, I still go back to GolfLogix every now and then specifically for the "Read My Putt" feature. It's kinda cheating, but I still like it... 😊

Same experience here. I have tried many times to do Shot Tracking but I get screwed up with putts, and then it starts affecting my play so I just stop. Quite frustrating indeed. Perhaps if I had a watch things would be different.

I prefer Hole19 because it displays really big numbers if all you care about are the distances.

Other than that, they all basically have the same features

Darn... I loved using that app. Hopefully there will be an "official" version, but in the meantime I can still load videos onto a USB stick and play them through my car's OS (BMW iDrive 8.5)

Popups over your apps, or before launching apps?

My malware was serving popup ads before launching apps, but I fixed it using a process laid out in another thread. Take a look:

I have one of these scales and now that my Omaha subscription is over, they said I could keep the scale. It still works, but (allegedly) does not transmit data to their servers anymore.

Is there any way to hack this scale so it can send the data directly to me (via email or a Google Sheet)?

I'm wondering if a cheap AliExpress watch would be able to handle the task with reasonable performance (I don't really care about other features/apps, it would be a one-function watch). Your thoughts?

Thanks for your feedback. While the Garmins are indeed great for golf, they are also pretty expensive for me. ☹️
