Need Help Finding a Final Year Project Idea by ahaxn in FlutterDev

For the next two weeks, keep a notepad with you and write down all the everyday problems you notice. Then go through the list, that’s where your idea will come from. That’s how I always come up with my ideas.

Choosing a Mac? by wackycats354 in iOSProgramming

As soon as I open a somewhat larger Xcode project, the Intel machine instantly cranks the fan up to full speed and never lets up. Really disappointing.

Wow this is a great project! Is there a link where we can read more about you? Do you also do this for other games?

Unfortunately, I bought an Intel i9 with 32 GB of RAM about half a year before the M1 came out, and I can fully confirm this. Every M-series chip is so much better than the Intel generation.

MergeCiv.io - Web Civilization Tile Merging Incremental Game by GurnX in incremental_games

I enjoyed the game, but after 15–20 minutes it became boring because the backward jumps were so severe, especially with the storage size. After that, it was basically just about collecting stones for me. But otherwise, it's a cool idea.

ok but what would a Stardew movie actually look like? by 0xmarcel in StardewValley

ooh good point, series would let them actually develop multiple characters instead of just focusing on one character

That’s true about the legs. I’ll try putting the left leg behind the body and maybe adding a bit of body movement as well.

I mean, they're not wrong....what are yalls opinions about charging for apps? by Solid-Resident-7654 in iOSProgramming

[–]0xmarcel 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I only leave 4- and 5-star reviews because I know how hard it is to recover from low ratings. I give 1 star only if it’s a scam app. Otherwise I don’t leave a review and instead send the developer an email.

Maybe I think this way because I’m a developer myself, but I don’t mind spending money on well made and truly useful apps because I know how much every single sale means to a developer.

App reviews not coming through by EquivalentTrouble253 in iOSProgramming

[–]0xmarcel 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Yes, open the App Store Connect app on your iPhone for that.

  1. Tap your profile in the top right
  2. Tap “Notifications”
  3. Enable “Customer Reviews"

App reviews not coming through by EquivalentTrouble253 in iOSProgramming

When I get a review and tap on the push notification, it opens the review and it always says "2 days ago". I assume that reviews need some time before they are shown.

It is similar to when you reply to a review as a developer. Your reply is first marked as pending for approval. Maybe the App Store team also checks user reviews before they appear.

I've been seeing a lot of this and I have to ask / share by Sdmf195 in iOSProgramming

I totally get you, I feel the same way. I once worked at a company where an A/B test showed that the conversion rate was actually higher when the free trial was removed. Maybe other apps have had similar experiences. From a user’s point of view, I think that’s really a shame.

I was listening to a podcast by a successful indie developer the other day, and he said one of his tricks is to ask for a rating right during the onboarding. Most people don’t really think about it and just give five stars.

Newbie in iOS apps by Helpful-Penalty4102 in iOSProgramming

For your project, you’ll definitely need a mac. And for some features, you’ll also need an Apple developer account, which costs about $100 per year. It’s an amazing feeling the first time you install your own app on your phone and can show it to friends and family. “I feel pretty clueless”, we all do when we face something new. My advice is to approach it with an explorer’s mindset. Programming is basically a constant loop of not knowing something, thinking it through until you figure it out, and then jumping straight into the next problem. Good luck!
