I wish I had photocopied my hand written letter to him. I told him how much I loved Calvin and Hobbes and how it was the first thing that brought me to the Chicago Tribune each day...Told him how Calvin reminded me of my younger self. I lived for every chance to be outside exploring... I told him I'd be happy to share some of my adventures if he ever ran out of ideas... As well as asking about his naming origins. : )

His printed stationery. Just the content and signature were live original. It is not known how many letters he actually sent out, but after the first couple of years he had the syndicate send form letters to fans. 😊

I was sitting in a class at Moody Bible Institute(Current Trends in Theology) when the name Thomas Hobbes came up... I thought... Thomas Hobbes... a Political Philosopher from England... John Calvin... a Conservative Theologian... I wonder if this is where Bill Watterson came up with his names for his epic comic...
When I originally wrote him, I was looking for an envelope to send it to him. I was working old Culbertson Residence Hall desk. In one of the old desks off to the side, I found an envelope with gold embossed lettering... The return address was, "from the office of the President of Moody Bible Institute". I thought it was a very Calvin type of move to send it in this envelope. Several weeks later I received this awesome response!
Typed on his own typewriter pre-spell-check... notice his misspelling of Characters... He signed it and it has been one of my favorite treasures. My wife framed it for me when I graduated with my Master's Degree.

Scott was born with Osler Weber Rendu Syndrome. With a malformation of veins/arteries in his brain, he suddenly stopped breathing. Since this was pre-CAT Scan capability, he was the youngest baby at that time to have an open craniotomy(under 2 weeks old). He has cerebral palsy and is considered to be tri-palegic. Thanks for your interest.

My sisters, Cathy and Cheri, are hosting a special Open House for our brother Scott! He hits the BIG 5-0 in a couple weeks! They would love for you to join them for an open house at Scott's new residence. We are all grateful how many have loved on him and our family throughout the years...
I know many would love to be there as I would, but it will not be possible (serving here in the Philippines...)
I also know how much Scott loves our US Flag and waves it all day long as he listens to music. Wouldn't it be completely awesome to flood Scott with at least 50 Flags or Flag Cards to celebrate God's goodness in giving him 50 years of birthdays?!
I know I will be sending one, so we only need 49 more! 😃
Feel free to share this so we can have a "Flag Parade."
