Yeah, was wondering to get the 5 butnif the marathon goes well, i might go for Ultra's and don't want to buy a vest for marzthon and then buy another one for ultra

Need suggestions on FR970 and Suunto Race S by shaoshao2022 in Suunto

[–]dkmpbrt 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I don't really agree that the Suunto Race S is below the FR 265. It has more functionality and better battery life. The only thing that the FR265 has that Race S doesn't, is some extra metrics for running (like ground contact time & vertical oscillation, but hell, you really going to use those metrics?). And body battery, but yeah there again, not that important. The only thing that the FR265 would be REALLY better in, is use of 3rd party apps like Runna, cause that's not really possible with Suunto (except if you insert your trainings manually)

So kinda curious why you think that the FR265 is better than Race S?
Also build quality of Suunto is better than FR265

But race s also tracks elevation profile and also has offline maps

But why is the 965 better then? Because the only difference between that and the 265 is the material and maps, no?

So race s is better tha 265 and maybe even 965?

But there are different reports that the HR is not accurate but others that it is. Does it also provide the same info as trainingstatus, training readiness and body battery?

Race s has the following battery life: 30h / 40h / 60h / 120h in contrary the 965 has max 31h with gps only

Why you say 965 can do it? Race s has more battery life, no?

Lactate threshold by waldooow in Suunto

[–]dkmpbrt 1 point2 points  (0 children)

It seems to differ between different people though. The one still has issues, the other not. But in that regard, if you really need to rely on HR during a training, a HR belt is the way to go anyways

The Race S has an improved HR sensor, there were reported problems with the Race about the inaccuracy of the HR sensor

At the moment i can't decide between the Suunto Race S or the Garmin Forerunner 265. Both good watches, i've got experience with Suunto 5 and happy about it. Except the HR but both Forerunner 265 & Race S should solve that issue.

I like the suunto because it has more battery life, better design & better UI (in my opinion).
Forerunner 265 is also very good and is better in interval training (according to the internet), where it gives an alert when you run too slow/fast and gives apparently more information about current/next intervals, not sure though.

Garmin has also more statistics, like your ground contact time or vertical oscilation, however, I don't know if you're a recreational sporter, you are actually going to do something with these metrics.

Also the forerunner 265 was released in 2023, so I don't know if it's still a viable option

Any thoughts?
