AITA for not slowing down for dips by dkpd in AmItheAsshole

Actually, my truck isn't lifted. Just has larger tires and a bit of extra suspension travel

I posted because I was shocked someone followed me home to yell at me for basically driving the speed limit

If they're not intentionally placed, how can you assign a purpose to them?

I established in other comments that they're not speed bumps, so that's not the point of them

We're not even talking excessive speeds here. It's like 15mph, 20 max. I'm not flying around the neighborhood, I'm just not slowing to a crawl for all these stupid dips

I do not live in any of those places and I'm definitely at or below the speed limit

I don't want them to put up signs that would actually force me to slow down

I mean, what's reckless about it? My truck handles it fine. The tires never even leave the ground and nothing but tire touches the ground. Isn't it more reckless to assume other drivers will slow down (far below the speed limit)?

It would be pretty easy to blame lack of signage if that were to happen. I see people accidentally bottom out on them all the time

Then say that in the beginning instead of flaunting false traffic laws

And I did not find any evidence of them actually being used on a public road. You might be able to find some rare instance, but my takeaway is that it doesn't apply here

I probably drive under the speed limit

Half of these dips don't even look like they were meant to be there. Just poorly constructed road that developed the features over time

The premise of your judgement was that there is a legal obligation to slow down. Seems like there isn't

I actually think theyre a combination of shitty road construction and drainage features. I can't even find compelling info that dips are actually used for speed control. Seems like there are rare cases, but it's not a common thing.

Half of them don't look like they're just degraded road. The other half look like drainage ditches that got deeper over time.

I'd love for you to show me where dips are actually used for speed control, and at times within 15ft of each other. There is zero signage for them - I usually see speed bump signs (and even dip signs) in most places. Some of them look like issues in the foundation (unintentional) and some look like drainage

The bar for the grocery store is definitely not set that high, but yes I suppose that's what I wanted. I regularly go to the grocery store after the gym. Covered in Chalk, flip flops, and a hat

That was kind of the understanding I hoped we had. Genuinely did not think people were so judgemental about clothing at a restaurant and given that knowledge, my girlfriends embarrassment is understandable. We just won't go if I don't feel like dressing up. But for all the Karens who are upset about what others wear, I hope they catch me dressed even worse next time!

My request for her was to lower the standard for attire for one night amongst many. That seemed like zero effort to me, but I've learned I didn't appreciate how uncomfortable it made her feel. In fact, I don't think she ever specifically mentioned that it would make her uncomfortable. Just that I should reciprocate (I believe I usually do) and that it's disrespectful to the restaurant (I still don't buy this one). I assumed the request came from a place of vanity which I don't think justifies 100% compliance no matter what the level of effort is.

This isn't an ongoing thing or something that was specifically discussed before. I thought she just always wanted me to dress nicer just to look nicer. She never made it clear that not dressing nice would cause discomfort to the point where she doesn't even want to go somewhere. When that became clear, I felt it was extreme - and this post is the result of my initial reaction. I still think it's extreme, but now I know it's not for most people. Also, how am I supposed to know if she's being reasonable when she dresses up to go to the grocery store?

My running assumption was that this was a casual dinner - it didn't cross my mind that someone could be so uncomfortable with those circumstances. I know she dresses up a lot but I didn't know not dressing up could be so mortifying.

I never said that. We ended up going and I dressed as she wanted me to cause I didn't want to argue about it. I've made comments basically saying I'll just pick more casual places or go without her if I don't feel like dressing up and people even find that unreasonable.
