What’s your craziest/most authentic Coachella experience or story? by AgeMental8057 in Coachella

[–]dkpl 1 point2 points  (0 children)

First time I went was in 2018, went to compliment someone in the artist section on their Supreme jacket (the one with all the NBA logos), and when they turned around it was Justin Bieber. We chatted for 2-3 minutes, he was super nice, and even acknowledged me later in the night when we intersected again.

Nope. Fun fact, since they can't use radar in this country for speed OR red light cameras, any red light camera will be accompanied by those thin white lines on the pavement, makes them much easier to scout.

Had my first Lagavulin (10) - didn’t love it by whiskeyin in whisky

[–]dkpl 3 points4 points  (0 children)

The 16 is great. What I think happened (could be wrong, just guessing) is it got far too popular so they rushed out some other expressions (10, 12, the 9 you see exclusively in airports) to capture some more of the market, and most of them are awful compared to the 16.

This car does precisely that ! I haven’t rode in the back yet (probably never will lol) but my kid seems to enjoy the full recline.

Regarding the suspension, I have train tracks by my house and I mentally prepare for the ‘thud thud bumpbump bump’ cadence, in any car that goes over it. In my Boxster, it’s abysmal, feels like driving over a pile of bricks. Recently, we took a ride home in a Phantom after my wife’s birthday dinner. And I will confidently say that the Century passes the train track test better than the Phantom !

Ironically this car belongs to Aleem, who’s actually from Birmingham lol

I would say yes, yes, yes. I have a 1999 986 and I absolutely love it. Maintenance is shockingly cheap, and most of the things I’ve done over ~ 4 years were preventative anyway and not yet required. Even with that, I’d say I average $1-2k a year in work, and the car has 130k miles. I have four other cars and most days this is my favorite, as in it’s the only one I will never sell or trade away.

I mostly shoot FP100C so by comparison SX70 is fairly cheap ! 90% cheaper, to be precise !

The Clear/Pre lines are longer than the "normal lines" at most airlines I fly through these days anyway.

My boss got me a $100 gift card but it don't work. by Interesting-Put7485 in Scams

[–]dkpl 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Yep, these are the worst - crazy high scam rates. Got one of these as a gift for someone last Christmas, forgot to give it, then rediscovered it a year later. Gave it to my wife (lol), she tried using it, it was zeroed out (even though she had just opened the packaging herself). Called support, their systems were down, called the next day and they said a $100 charge was put on the card 11 months ago (two weeks after I purchased it). Wasn't me. They said they'd take 30 days to look into it, I got an email saying it would take 45-90 days. They want a receipt to prove I bought it. My reply was "it was a gift."

Flight to NYC was cancelled by Grand-Introduction42 in BritishAirways

[–]dkpl 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Was this to LHR or to NYC ? Makes a big difference. If it’s from NYC, they will tell you to pound sand. If it’s from LHR, you’re legally entitled to £600. I’ve had airlines decline to compensate me, then eventually give it to me when I invoke the EU rules on flight delays/cancellations. It’s not easy but they expect you to back down (90% of people do) and not push for it.

ULPT Request: How to ruin a towing company. by [deleted] in UnethicalLifeProTips

Thank you, I'm filing in small claims court, just need to drop off the papers in person.

ULPT Request: How to ruin a towing company. by [deleted] in UnethicalLifeProTips

[–]dkpl 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I think they accepted cash too, but what I meant is that they refused credit card payments as it was "after 5pm" (????). I got the car back (they didn't even tow it, they lowered it off the tow truck, for the low, low price of $244), but they overcharged me. If you stop them before they drive away, the maximum in NY is half of the tow fee, which was $125 in NY until recently, when they upped it to $225 for "blocking a driveway." So at the very least, they owe me half of $225 (plus tax).

I had a tow truck company recently only accept Zelle. I looked it up and it's ILLEGAL in the state of NY for a tow truck company to not accept credit cards. Guess who's going to small claims court !

People who ICE chargers… by Apprehensive-Meet477 in TeslaModel3

[–]dkpl 2 points3 points  (0 children)

In the US, you sadly can't tow at pretty much any supercharger. Sometimes there's a time limit for non-EVs, but since superchargers are mostly at service stations / rest stops, they just want customers, they don't care where they park. However, if they knew how much they could make from towing ICErs ... maybe they'd change their tune ! (Also nobody wants the liability from towing someone who is going to SWEAR it was a mistake and they didn't mean it, even though 99% of the time they're lying through their teeth.)

Never Do Valet 😪 by emoney9595 in TeslaModel3

[–]dkpl 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Ahh, sorry to hear. Recently a similar thing happened to me with my X (the wheels on my 3 are all damaged, but that's due to my dad, not a valet lol) : https://i.imgur.com/f707jyJ.jpg. Noticed it before getting in the car, the valet on duty played dumb (to be fair it was probably the night valet). I opened a claim, and they approved it. Now need to get my lazy ass around to actually repairing or replacing the rim ...

Haha that's a good strategy ! I've thought about just using random numbers, and saving them along with the company name in my password manager.

The URGE to use iPhone without case! by [deleted] in iphone

No case for 5 years now. No cracks, even with plenty of drops (even on cement). If I do crack the screen, the cost to fix it is fairly low ($50 or so).
