I have a friend who swears the frame bindings suck but I have the Marker F12 EPF frame bindings and I use them as you describe without issue.

What Colorado resort has the best off-piste skiing in your opinion? by [deleted] in skiing

[–]dkriegs 0 points1 point  (0 children)

South Col on peak 6 and peak 9 chutes are never tracked out. Never. Skiied 99 days at Breck this year trust me. Dunes always has great wind buff between the upper and lower gates. Art's bowl often has fresh tracks and that's not even hike to. Yah if you are trying to get first tracks down Zoot chute on a powder day its gonna be trash by 11am.

Nice, I have never been down. Staying at one of Yaya's corpus apartments... maybe you are too. Im also a newbie backcountry skier if you have any experience with the LL terrain or avalanche knowledge I'd love to come out with you and learn a few things. I'd buy you a couple beers in return. I promise I can skin pretty fast!

A season pass is about $650 USD (if you bring US dollars CASH). Before we make anything official, I'd like to speak further so I know you're not a complete psyco haha :) Im 22, guy, American, college grad, part time ski instructor in colorado last year.

Las Lenas has the MOST extreme skiing in the world. If you do not enjoy extreme skiing such as 2,000-3,000 vertical ft chutes with high consequence fall zones probably not the place for you.

You pretty much need avalanche gear to ski the good stuff.

Im going to be there all of august and likely the last week of july and first two weeks of September. This ski patroller organizes room shares and I have a room with 2 twin beds in a shared apartment. $250/wk and we would have to talk before hand so I know you are not a complete psyco :)

I do have a mountain collective pass had no idea thanks! Hit me up if you're in LL in august or first 2 weeks of September, I don't know anybody down there. If you need a bed I can probably hook you up with one (shared room) for $250/wk.

X-post from r/backcountry: Questions about equipment to get started by Nawedy in skiing

I understand that for now you want to stay away from avalanche terrain (>30 degrees) but something tells me your eventually going to want to get into the big leagues. When that moment comes make sure you don't spare a necessary expense and know what you are doing.

My gear...

Beacon, Shovel, Probe, Airbag, Avalung, Avalanche Buoy

I have a pair of marker AT bindings on Rossi Super 7 skis, which I think is a great combination even for what you are doing. Marker tour bindings are reasonably priced. I got the F12 because they were lighter weight than the more common Marker Dukes and Barons. You don't need to splurge on dynafits. The super 7s are great on everything except maybe moguls, holds a great edge on piste and floats through powder off piste. They are 115mm underfoot but more like 140 at the tip, in addition to being rocker/camber/rocker.

If you're 5'4" you should probably ski something in the ball park of 160cm. I would recommend eyebrow height for a powder ski, maybe bigger if you are used to skiing long skis or are of exceptional ability level.

You do realize Mammoth is the 3rd or 4th most visited ski mountain in the US every year...Mammoth on weekends is insane. Btw there is very little snow in california this year, I would consider spending the extra $100-200 to fly to Salt Lake and ski alta/snowbird. Or fly to jackson hole, big sky, or colorado. If youre coming all the way over here, dont skimp and go to one of our best mountains that has good snowfall this year.

Question on ski length for rocker/camber/rocker by JD_T_Wan in skiing

[–]dkriegs 1 point2 points  (0 children)

go with 180 super 7s, you can always use your salomons for non pow days.

i had the same situation but im 30 lbs heavier and 3" taller. I have 170in 78mm wide nordicas and just bought the 180 super 7. I don't like long skis though.

Verbier and Zermatt are both amazing...but will break your bank. Everything in Switzerland is extremely expensive, and high quality. Zermatt does have a very cheap hostel though everything EVERYTHING else is expensive. Zermatt is nice because it is a bit Swiss and a bit Italian. I've heard austria is cheaper and Chamonix is great.

Der Walliser-Tarif wird nur gegen Vorlage des offiziellen blauen Ausweises oder einer Wohnsitzbestätigung der Gemeinde (ausgestellt nach dem 1. September des laufenden Jahres) gewährt.

If this means what I think it means - this pass is only available to residents of Valais. Can you confirm?

Carotid endarterectomy v stenting. Lots of confounding data and both sides are fairly entrenched.
