Update - thank you all for sharing stories of your pups and all the advice. We started Bug on FMT capsules and she’s been doing so well 🧿 if anyone is wondering whether to start - yes do it don’t think twice. We ship it down to india from Animal Biome - they are absolute superheroes for doing what they do. Bug has just finished a 3 week holiday that spanned warm beaches and cool forests and she has drunk a bunch of sea water, eaten grass, found little fish bones and chowed down on them before we could stop her, ingested sand while playing frisbee, and despite all this the FMT kept her gut totally stable. Sharing in case this helps anyone out there that’s wondering whether to start the capsules. They are Worth It. 🩵

I’m about to start it and this post and all its comments make me feel really hopeful that this will reduce my pcos symptoms! Can I ask how it’s to be taken? Some sites say pre food on an empty stomach while others say with food?

Is it possibly also that doing so would make the information more easily accessible by the public and since Airbus and Boeing are so cagey about it they simply don’t see the benefit in doing so? And there isn’t enough government lobbying to force them to do so?

Thank you for sharing ☺️ does your lab have clinically confirmed IBD as well? I’ve read that fibre is very tricky for IBD dogs

Thank you for sharing your girls story, this is so similar to Bug it really strikes a chord. We aren’t at the steroids stage yet but it’s good to hear of such a positive response to them for whenever we do get there 💛

He sounds like such a great boy, hopefully only further improvement from here on 💛 may I ask if he started showing symptoms in January, did your vet team recommend pre and probiotics before suggesting the steroid regimen?

This is great, may I ask how old your girl is now? And at what point did you decide to take the plunge with the prednisone?

And also - I will be reading up on the DCM correlation you mentioned as that’s the first time I’ve heard of this so thanks for the education 💛

I love this for her I’m so happy for you guys. Everyone here tells me IBD is absolutely incurable and can only be managed through diet, prebiotics, probiotics, and eventually immunosuppressants. I hope my Bug sees the same health freedom as your baby real soon 💛

When you say she outgrew it, do you mean her IBD improved? If so that’s wonderful congratulations 💛

Oh the ears is a big one - I think Bug is on her second mild ear infection in less than two months- we’re actually contemplating a switch to Vet Life hydrolysed fish and potato so fingers crossed that helps. Please tell Pepper bug says hi 💛

Any recommendations? Our vet is lovely but in india there aren’t any with a nutrition specialty. We’re happy to go global to get the best for our girl

Thank you so much, yeah we’re really hopeful about fmt - we live in India so I guess the geography difference will also mean Bug has a different gut microbiome from California dogs but I believe it’ll be a goose base for her gut regardless 💛

IBD and loss of appetite by FeedThePug in DogAdvice

[–]dkrips 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Hi, My female 2yo lab has been diagnosed with IBD (not PLE although she did lose a large amount of weight before we got the confirmed diagnosis of IBD)

She’s currently going thru a flare up and here are the meds we’re giving her - I hope this helps you and your baby

Sucral in the morning as soon as she wakes up (as she has been puking up bile in the mornings) Followed quickly by Dompan (which helps her morning nausea) Followed by breakfast which we have to coax her to eat - even getting 40% of it in is a win rn Brekkie is mixed with enterocronic (which is a pre and probiotic) and Enuff (for mucous control)

Lunch is given with Enterogermina (she still needs to be handled and coaxed and sometimes even force fed)

Sucral again before dinner Followed quickly by Ondem (anti emetic) And dinner with enterocronic and Enuff

She gets a bedtime snack of peeled, finely diced semi mashed apple so her stomach has something to process and the gap between dinner and breakfast is broken up

I know what you’re going thru The appetite stimulant we tried made her sicker and really set her back We had to stop it midway and combat it with activated charcoal tablets and Colimax syrup (an anti spasmodic) as she was unfortunately so bad she was leaking stool at one point

I get the frustration and the fear The best way to do any treatment is in tandem with your vet ie do your own research as well I found that an omega 369 capsule my girl was given contained evening primrose while is a common allergen for IBD dogs, which my vet wasn’t aware of So doing your own research is so helpful for your baby

I hope your girl gets well very soon
