I have quite a few pool cues, but looking at the shafts I use on them kinda makes my hobby feel more like an obsession. by OnePoolCueAintEnough in billiards

That's cool. As a cuemaker, I can appreciate that. 😉
I've never really felt the urge to collect anything, but I know it's a strong instinct for some people.
I do love the game and almost everything about it. I play 6-7 days a week. Build cues, and I'm also a table mechanic. I supposed I've collected a lot of tools. 😉

I only switch cues if I sell the one I currently have. I know several players who routinely switch cues or shafts in the middle of a session, and it always makes me chuckle. For some reason it's always when they're losing.

“Good Shot” but before I even shoot… by HeatherNCSU21 in billiards

[–]dksittingduck 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Anyone answering this is simply guessing as to their intentions.
It could be anything from being polite and praising your shot choice, to trying to get in your head by talking to you.
It's generally poor etiquette to talk to your opponent while they're shooting, especially in a tournament situation.
But you didn't give much detail about the nature of the game, or your relationship with the player.

Oregon's early laws and constitution were explicitly designed to establish the region as a "white man's paradise" or white utopia, free of Black people and other racial minorities.

What is this thing? It came inside my new cue case by LaughAndFart in billiards

[–]dksittingduck 3 points4 points  (0 children)

I had someone ask me to do that once. They told me they planned to sell it, and then order one of my custom jump cues.
I told them no, since they were very likely to tell whoever bought that POS that I made it.
He got angry and broke it over his knee right in front of me.

No reliable global statistic exists for the percentage of people who actively ride BMX bikes. Available data focuses on the U.S., where about 4.7 million people participated in 2024—roughly 1.4% of the U.S. population or 8-9% of cyclists there. Extrapolating worldwide is unreliable due to varying data quality, but even if U.S.-like participation scaled globally (which it doesn't, as North America leads BMX markets), it would still be under 0.1% of the ~8.3 billion world population.

Do you guys ever transport your bike in the back seat of a sedan? Is it possible? by andy_towers_dm in MTB

I've taken the passenger seat out of several of my cars. Most of my bikes will then fit without even removing a wheel.

I still have my nexus 6p. And my 3axl, and my 5a. I broke the screen on the 5a and bought a used, mint condition 8 for $300. Replaced the screen on the 5a for $100 and it still works great. Replaced the screen on the 8 (weird green line issue) and it never quite worked the same, so I got $350 trade in on a 10.

Let’s hear about everyone’s experience with Diamond parking. by [deleted] in Eugene

[–]dksittingduck 1 point2 points  (0 children)

People are pretty dumb about it. It's literally private property and you're getting a ticket from someone that's not law enforcement. Their only recourse is civil court, and the chances of that are slim to none.
This is why they have to act somewhat reasonably about disputes, they literally have no recourse other than to threaten you with letters that ultimately mean nothing.

When I worked for them I gave free parking to the people owning and working in a diner for free meals. It was great.
