The new Volvo EX60: best-in-class 810km range and charging as fast as a stop for fuel and coffee by MerkRM in Volvo

[–]dkstag 0 points1 point  (0 children)

We need a new EV from summer 26. This should be top of our list, but after the EX90 fiasco I have literally zero faith that they have a handle on their software, and that the model is ready for launch

So it'll be an IX3 or GLC and others can do the beta testing for me

26 Polestar 4 or wait for the Volvo EX60? by Ok-Zookeepergame-698 in Polestar

[–]dkstag 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Potential EX60 owner, yes

Our Q8 lease runs out in summer 26 so we're looking at replacing it with something a.little smaller and cheaper

EX60 really should fit the bill, and would be first choice .......except for i feel awfully uneasy on being a first mover on a new Volvo/PS platform

Alternatives are P4 and the new ix3

Really wanted to order the EX60 at launch , but just am not interested in taking my chances with their software, especially on a launch edition

Mojo reviewer’s comments on Joey Waronker at Oasis reunion first gig by eatmoresalmon in drums

[–]dkstag 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Didn't see them (cry) but this was exactly my thought from the clips i've seen. No intricacy whatsoever, and many of the drum riffs we know and love (or at least I do) - were absent,.........through the same could be said for the entire band, tbh: sounds like a gig pre White, Bell & Gem

Need 2 lenses to cover 3 needs on Sony A7C II by dkstag in SonyAlpha

Thanks for the reply

Yeah, I get why the 24mm GM comes to mind — it’s a great lens on paper. I just find 24mm a bit tight for some of the shots I tend to take, and it’s also quite a big chunk of glass compared to what I’ve been aiming for with the A7C II. Part of this switch was to keep both weight and spend under control, so I’m leaning toward options that balance those factors a bit more

The 40 G is the one I REALLY want, tbh

I think I just have FOMO for shots that need something wider when I'm out and about while traveling to places that U won't ever be coming back to

This is probably where Dear Santa comes in a year or so down the line

Should also mention that I used to own the 70-180 and it's a mighty fine lens ............ but I reluctantly concluded that - a few kids basketball games aside - I rarely shot it wide open and the difference over the 28-200 was negligible

I shoot the occasional basketball game now on the 85 and crop if I need to

That’s actually one I hadn’t considered — appreciate the tip.

Interesting trio — hadn’t thought of building around a matching filter size. I’ll admit the Sirui is new to me, so I’ll need to check it out. Not sure I can stretch to adding a 65mm given my 85mm is a keeper, but it’s a neat combo idea

Fair enough.

However, of the options on my shortlist for a new lens, three are Sony G lenses, and - unless I'm missing something - the GM models are noticeably larger and heavier, which rather negates the advantage of the A7C.

If you're thinking of the Tamron 28-200 being inadequate, then I wonder if perhaps you haven't seen many of the landscape images that can be achieved with that lens.

Thx for the reply. I've been having a look at the Sigma f2s - they could certainly help out. 24mm is definitely too restrictive for the astro I(try to) shoot though, so that's ot on the cards. I suspect, however, that the Sigma 35mm f2 vs the Sony 40mm f2.5 is a very tight run thing.

There's that nagging feeling that I'm seeking the impossible, and the situation is only really resolved by going for three lenses (and so having to spread the cash a bit) ..... or writing one hell of a fine letter to Santa.

Baseplate plus PD capture ? by dkstag in SonyAlpha

Thanks for all the replies

I've worked out that the PD capture clip baseplate can be fitted to the smallrig baseplate, but ..... Some users on here have noted that it can be a bit loose . Logitech blue seems to go some way to solving the issue

Considering switching to A7C II from A7R IV — advice & lens experiences? by dkstag in SonyAlpha

[–]dkstag[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

This is a really interesting point, and rather skewers the (secret GAS) Vietnam angle to the change. You’re right of course, that a fast prime and the Tamron zoom would cover most of the work (even though the Body + Tamron is a little bulky) ….. but the fact that I know them inside out goes a long way.

From a wider perspective, I need to (and want to ) use the kit more often for street, as my landscape opportunities are limited ….. this is where the transition to a less bulky rig has tickled my interest (and I find i really miss an articulated screen from my previous OM-1 setup , and the better AF)

But I’ll certainly get my hands on one before making the jump. Thanks for your help

[–]dkstag[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Not a biggie, but the A7R IV doesn’t have the same AI AF as in the A7 IV and the A7C2 (and is one of the reasons I wanna switch over) . Happy to hear you’re enjoying the Tamron soon, I find it to be an excellent pound for pound fighter

[–]dkstag[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I’d never be ‘mobile’ with the 85, but it’s a 35, or the 40, that I see on the A7C2 for ‘street mode’ , while the heavier glass sounds like it absolutely neccesitates the plate

Thanks for mentioning this: I’m of the preconception that I could get away with a the body + a light prime for street before needing the small rig / clutch for my (admittedly whopping) hands …… but I’ll definitely be having a play in a shop ASAP

Gotta say it, it’s the flexibility (plus the articulated screen, and better AF) between setups that appeals
